OMG..That poor woman. I realize she may have hurt some feelings but...WOW....seems like a severe reaction. I think a simple apology and removal of the bear would have been sufficient...

It is completely ridiculous. Many people are named Mohammad. The children chose the name. This kind of extreme behaviour does NOTHING for Islam at all. She sounds such a lovely teacher - her reward? Gangs of men waiting outside the jail to lynch her!

All I have to say about this is - can you imagine what would happen if the situation were reversed? A Sudanese teacher in England, threatened with flogging or jail because of a Teddy Bear's name?

Will there be repucussions for Sudan? Of course NO! There will be "polite talks" and "thank yous" and that will be the end of the matter. They have no religious/ fundamentalists/terrorists to fear!

I think even if the woman makes it back to England, she will still be prone to attacks from the extremists in her own country.

It only goes to prove....no good deed will go unpunished!!

I truely believe those children just picked the name because they liked it or are very familiar with it, but even if they had chosen it on religious ground, people should feel happiness that children give the name of the Prophet to a teddy-bear, as it is something a child confides in, takes with him everywhere, cries at separation and tells its secrets before sleep.

It was such a nice idea of the lady to let them write stories and compile a book of it. I hope they can save the writings and publish or use them in another way, non-related to the prophet.

Yes, this is tragic. I shudder to think of the impact this will have on the children.

Protestors now calling for her death. Can anyone...ANYONE here explain to me why these people, who call themselves religious, want to see the death of a woman who made an innocent mistake in letting children name a toy Mohammad? This religion that we are constantly told is non-violent, beautiful, forgiving...

The quote at the end of this report is ironic ..."they feel their religion has been slighted"!!! It has - but not by a teddy bear, but by these extremist muslims.

This "evil" woman's only comment? That she does not wish this to cause any bad feelings towards Islam.

I am at a loss to explain how these people preceive religion anymore than I could explain witch burning. An uneducated population who have been fed propaganda to distract from leaders who are not doing the best for their people?

When incidents like this happen, we are told by Turkish members that countries like Iran are the exception....then we are told countries like Saudi Arabia are the exception....then we are told countries like the Sudan are the exception. On THIS occasion, we have received no comments from our muslim members, so how do we interpret this silence?

I think that the truth is, with Islamic countries, it is only Turkey who are the exception.

And why dont you find it by yourself if you were interested?

İ mean,as you see no use of debating, everyone has something in his mind and stick to it...so its useless to debat about it.
So,you can find out for yourself, and choose what you want to believe.
İm not saying you visit every single country altho you are welcome, but there is an easier way,you can switch your TV channeles for a while, and see for yourself how those people look like, live or act,you will have a better idea even if you dont understand the language !
Some are true some are not, same as any Media, but at least you will have a better idea,or another idea than the one you used to see and hear!
Every country here in the Middle East has channeles on the satellite,if not many, they at least has one, even poor countries
They have formal channeles ,and private ones, and you can find most of them on Nilesat and there are some on Arabsat
Usually formal channeles are boring 'ours is' and private channeles are much nicer
İ dont know much about others, but we have lots of formal channeles and lots of privates too,and many of them are free,no need special cards or anything.
So,you will see,and then think what you want, and i guess that is better too.

As for İran and Saudi Arabia, yes they are the exception, because its the system of the country
As for Sudan, that is ignorance, and that is something else !
They think they are defending their religion this way..someone put this stupid idea in their minds and the rest have follow,if they give it just small thought
They are calling their son's Mohamed too, kids when fight together, hit eachother, call bad names to eachothers, then they are insulting Rasul Mohammed SAV ?!
Why dont they make it a big deal then and its happening everyday ?!
That is stupidity ,and someone using it there !

I have to admit that UK muslims were among the first to condemn the action in Sudan and have supported her release.

Two of our muslim peers were able to secure her release.

Unfortunately, it has created bad feeling towards Islam in the UK. Although we know there are extreme Islamic states, unfortunately the countries involved ALWAYS justify their actions in the name of Islam - so people tend to associate ALL muslims with such actions.

I don't know of any other religion that does this. For example, as a country, our bad "deeds" are the fault of the "British" or "the west" but never as "Christians"!!

Because we distinguish our government from our religion. As many mistakes as the US has made.....I don't think anyone in the government has claimed that the bible told us to do it. We are just bed Amerikans....plain and simple.

The Sudanese really need to get involved with some between prayer activities, This teacher did not Insult the prophet,a child named the bear. The Toy bear is obviously dear to the child and so is the Prophet, I am sure there are Men all over the world named after the prophet, I'm sure some of these men drink alcohol and smoke. Are they getting flogged for not behaving in a perfect manner? No.
Stop the hipocracy. I think someone should open up a few bowling alley's or start a little league baseball league in places like Sudan to give these people something to do. They have way too much time on their hands.
