Quoting catwoman: Quoting alameda: teaschip1....As a blond you represent the power elite and would pobably be perceived as the woman of a powerful man. To seriously bother you could mean serious problems. Is your friend brown haired? Anyway, that's my take on things...and it's based on some extensive knowledge of the culture. |
Wow!!! That's reaaaaaaaaaly interesting!!! This is so backwards and stupid!!! But I guess it's one of the exceptions as to where blondes can feel relatively safe... which is a good thing, though so opposite to Turkey! |
It has it's limits...and it's subtle also. I wouldn't feel too safe no matter what my hair color is...but, sad to say, the darker the skin, the darker the hair, the less safe a woman is.

Well harassment to you, maybe different to me. I don't find a man sitting on a subway with his legs spread apart as harassment. But believe me, I have no problems holding my own here on American soil. |
It was not about a man sitting on a subway with his legs spread apart, it was about a man with his legs spread apart and pressing mine...do you get it now?
Also, Mexico is on American soil North America....perhaps you mean United States of America soil...aka USA...soil.

I wasn't in your situation, so I really don't know if I would have felt harassed or not. And yes, I was refering to the United States of America...
Again, everyone has their own form of feeling threatend or harassed. I may feel uncomfortable, with them yelling but I deal with it in my own way, I prefer to tune them out. Now if I was touched, we are talking a different stoy. That is something I don't tolerate.

I don't think 95% of the world is xxxxxx up...although there isn't as much compassion as we would like to see. I think most people want to be "good" people, it's actually the minority who are selfish. Then there are the real pshchopathic personalities who fool a lot of people.
"The psychopath is one of the most fascinating and distressing problems of human experience. For the most part, a psychopath never remains attached to anyone or anything. They live a "predatory" lifestyle. They feel little or no regret, and little or no remorse - except when they are caught. They need relationships, but see people as obstacles to overcome and be eliminated. If not, they see people in terms of how they can be used. They use people for stimulation, to build their self-esteem and they invariably value people in terms of their material value (money, property, etc..)."

Quoting catwoman: Quoting geniuda: But I think it happens everywhere. |
Sorry geniuda, it's nothing personal, but I hate such apologetic, irresponsible statements as: 'it happens everywhere'. Yes, to a certain degree it may happen everywhere, but to WHAT degree it happens - does make a difference! Fear of being raped or kidnapped in Mexico city in the daylight is a little bit different then fear of walking alone at night on a deserted street! Even though you may say 'it's the same underlying issue'. |
Let me clarify something...I didnt mean 'it happens everywhere' as an acceptable action. What I really meant to say is that not only in Mexico men harras women. Yes, I do agree this kind of actions shouldnt exist 'anywhere'.. I dont find it acceptable at all. Unfortunately, even myself that I know the culture and lifestyle wouldnt feel too safe in Mexico City

Quoting teaschip1:
While were talking about Mexican men, I do have a comment/question. There is a perception about Mexican men at least were I live. The perception is they treat their wifes and girlfriends with little respect. I wonder where this perception stems from. Any insight? |
OKKKK to what I'm reading we are not ex maniacs in Mexico realy we are not and sorry if you find it like that in only shows how intolerant you are
It's really dissapointing to read this type of thigs and see that people see us like that.
Besides what's wrong with someone telling ou you are good looking (guapa) if you are pfffff compliments are good everwhere ( with it's exceptions like a dark alley 2 am and whatnot)
Now my insights that's totally FAKE here is a custome to have great respect to woman to mothers and sisters girlfriend and wife. Of course as in everywhere there might be cheating husbands cheating boyfriends and whatnot. But boys are always raised with the idea of respecting woman.
I've lived all my life in a family where respect is a mandatory and I respect everyone my father respects my mother and my brother respect her girlfriend.
pfff I hope you have a clearer vision now and I hope you don't make an opinion of seeing your neighbohr or seeing man on the street.

I think you have mixed your answer to teaschip1 with some of my comments.
As I have said, I am very aware of this culture. Read my name? As for a man complimenting me, he should keep his mouth shut and not yell anything at me. I'm not a dog or animal.
His shouting guapa at me intrudes into my mind. This was not invited, it is an invasion, it is a violation of my personal space. I am not on display for his approval.
