Önce çok geçti, hayatısı değiştirmek istiyordu

Can I use ´önce´ here? - or should I use something else? Corrections please

(I actually wanted to say ´He would change his life before it was too late´ but I get very muddled with the ´would´ construction in Turkish so was being lazy with the ´wanted to´ - so any help with ´would´  - would be welcome)

I think we can say "Çok geç olmadan/kalmadan, hayatını değiştirmek istedi."

If you start to translate with "Önce çok geçti" this sentence does not make a sense.

Sağol harpoon - but why do you use ´olmadan´ doesn´t that mean ´without´?

Turkish : "Bir gün bir roman okudu ve bütün hayatı değişti"

P.S.

- (Verb : yüklem, fiil) To change : Değiştirmek, değişmek, yolculukta aktarma yapmak, para bozdurmak, etc

- (Noun : isim ) Change : Değişim, değişiklik, bozuk para

Turkish : Çok geçti;  ama daha da geç olmadan hayatını değiştirmek istiyordu.

English : It was too late;  but he/she wanted to change his/her life without being too late.

Yilgun - this was not what I was asking.

But you can also add "önce":

i.e.

Çok geç olmadan, hayatını değiştirmek istedi.

or

Çok geç olmadan önce, hayatını değiştirmek istedi.

Thanks dilli!  I originally thought of using -madan önce but because I didn´t consider using ´olmak´ I couldn´t work out where to put it!  - so obvious now!

Bu tümce -cümle- süregelen ve akışkan bir zamanı belirlediğinden, "önce" sözcüğünün -kelimesinin-kullanımı, tümcedeki anlam bütünlüğünü ve söz dizimini gereksiz olarak ve olumsuz yönde etkiliyor, diye düşünüyorum.Başka bir anlatımla, burada "önce" sözcüğünü kullanmamak daha uygun.

Anlatım bozukluğuna mı yol açtığını düşünüyorsun?

Çok düşünmedim, belki doğru olabilir. Ama sıkça bu şekilde kullanmaz mıyız yine de?

Well, of course it is not necessary, sentence is fine without "önce" but I don´t think it is a problem if you use it.

and if you search in google you find 58000 hits

From previous experience dilli, I am quite happy to trust your judgement on what is and what is not acceptable Turkish

I´ve said it before and I´ll say it again - if no two Turks seem able to agree on how to speak their language, what hope is there for me?  

I just want to be UNDERSTOOD!!!!   Give me a paragraph in English and I could probably give you half a dozen different ways to say/write it - doesn´t mean any of them are more right or wrong than others!!

We were going to move to France originally!!
