No, there arent many gods. Theres one true living God - YHWH.
My favourite Bible text: 1 Corinthians 13, vs 1-7
Love
1. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Funny, all the ´real´ Christians I meet always seem to ´forget´ this text. They ´know´ what the truth is, they can tell what is right and what is wrong, they can judge over others. Surprised I left Christianity a long, long time ago?

Ah, the very angry Christian religion, now I understand. You must really not like yourself. Because, yes, I DID read the Bible, and it says "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (levictus 19) ... you seem to think all people are useless, and their good actions are filthy rugs...
And if I remember my studies well, didn´t the Bible also state "But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also." (Mathew 5:39) Which has the same ati-vengance message as the "eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" remark.
I would advise you to open your Bible again, read the message of respect and love that it holds, and then come back to talk some more.
Strange in one sentence you say its the very angry christian religion. and in the other sentence you pick opposite statements reffering to Bible verses.
As for your last comment, I open that Bible everyday. Yesterday I read Psalm 8 and Hebrews first few chapters. The day before I read Acts and then the Gospel of Luke. so on and on.
Its just an example for you how well I may know the Bible.
You speak about love. I speak about punishment.
This same God is saying that He is gonna destroy this whole earth and heaven killing everyone. At the time of deluge He killed everyone except 8 people.
Now, do you hate this God?
He will not accept anyone to Himself who will not accept his salvation. Billions of people including millions of christians are not saved.

Not surprised at all that you left Christianity. Christianity is a religion with hundreds of denominations in it. You should believe in God not in religion. And real Christians are not a club for adoring each other.
Be real. God is not only Love and Mercy, He is also Wrath and Justice.
If He was just God of Love and Mercy there would be no sufferring, no tears.
You see most of you avoid deep thinking, avoid difficult subjects. Run away from reality into something cosy or into your work or family. But there will come a day you will have to face the reality - your death from which you will not escape.

Lemon...I will make it simple for you... You are NOT God, so you have no idea what aybody´s innermost thoughts and ideas are. You don´t know if I´m good or bad. You don´t know what I can and can´t do. You are not allmighty, and therefor you can´t make allmighty statements. If you say you believe in the Bible, then preach the Bible. If you don´t believe in the things the Bible writes, then don´t say that what you believe in is from the Bible. You say "God is not all Love and Mercy"... Well, God is not all wrath and vengance either! He/she might be in reality, but if you believe in the Bible, then you believe in a mercifull God. If you think God is like a kid playing with ants, just bugging us and stamping on us to kill us in the end, fine. But then you can´t say that what you believe is from the Bible, because the Bible shows a God with a harsh and a soft side.
By the way, you don´t have to warn us and frighting us for death. I know I will die one day, and I´m not afraid of it. I might get run over a bus tomorrow, and the running over bit would be a downer, but the dying bit is a part of life.

Good post Trudy! I am with you on the "real" Christians, if there weren´t so many hypocrits about.
I particulary like 7) as this must refer to those Priests that molested those children....... and those who condem others for having different beliefs or ways of life (thinking Uganda now, and the treatment of gays!)

No, it isn´t.
All Bible prophets came from God and called people to God. They didnt create their own images or philosophies.
Mohammaed doesnt come from YHWH, thus he isnt counted as from God.
Jesus is the salvation and the only way to God. If you have problem with this, then you have problem with Bible not with me.

I feel like TC has turned into Sunday school all of a sudden. What the bible says can/is and will be debated until Jesus himself comes down and explains it to us again (and most people don´t really think that will ever happen). We could argue about it until the cows come home...but lets face it....we can all read the very same book and come up with totally different ideas about its meaning. This is why there are so many different Christian denominations.
lemon...you seem to have a very intolerant view of God. I am a believer myself, but I don´t think God is as petty as you describe...so I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. I hope and pray that there is room in heaven for me, a Catholic, my husband, a Muslim, and all my pastafarian friends who are far more tolerant and ethical than many "christians" that I know.

I must admit I got a wee bit confused, is Lemon´s God JHWH meaning the Old Testament creator of everything or is it the Catholic God as in Holy Trinity (god, son and holy spirit)? And, does saying that those who don´t worship God are not from God, means that God created only a certain group of people, who worship him, while the others, either not worshipping any gods or worshipping the wrong ones, were created by somebody (thing?) else?
That reminds me of a joke:
An atheist dies and gets to hell. The devil is showing him around, there are naked women having sex everywhere, loads of alcohol, good music and happy people. then he spots a group of people screaming, sitting in huge pots hanging over fire. He asks the devil what that is supposed to mean, to which the devil replies: "Oh, pay no attention to them. they are Catholics. They have it as they wished"
