How to compliment the beauty of a Turkish woman
|
1. |
16 Nov 2005 Wed 05:31 am |
Hi, I need help! I'd like to compliment the beauty of a close female friend of who is Turkish. It is my intention to make her see me in a new light perhaps.
Here is what I have so far:
Dear Leyla (not her real name) Hanim,
I took down the last message I wrote on your wall last weekend because it did not fully capture what I wanted to say. Here is what I really wanted to say:
Like the flowers you are named after that blossom in Spring, your beauty has blossomed as well—You were always beautiful, but now you have become even more beautiful since the last time I saw you.
It was good to see you
Take care,
Andrew
Does anyone see any potential problems with this message? Can anyone think of any more appropiate compliments? If this is good enough, could someone please translate it for me?
Thanks to everyone in advance!
Andrew

Hi Drew,
I do hope you are successful in capturing that beautiful Turkish woman.
I believe you have to work hard at it. As they are very reticent. Someone might give you guidance on this aspect.
I'm sure you will get some help from the males in here, on how to get to know her.

also, many turkish girls tend to "treat them mean to keep them keen" so if she does this too... just keep trying, it will impress her and it means she likes you!!

Evet Miss Ceyda, I see you were being instigated.
I would like you to express how you feel trapped in a country with limitations. This would explain a lot to us foreigners about just seeing the surface of a country and how a female feels in Turkey.

well i will try.. i will have to go in 16 minutes but i will try to cut it short..
first of all.. i am in england.. and if anyone else on this site lives here they may understand me.. i doubt it though.... anyway...
first there is studying, having to put up with working everyday... being trapped in a place full of people who you have nothing in common with... having to laugh at there dull, immature jokes or not fit in...
then going home, being stuck in the same four walls until i go back to my exam studying the next day. not having my own space to sit and do what i do best, write. nothing left to inspire me anymore...
and then i have msn so i can talk to my bf and my relatives... but then im only limited to seeing them from webcam eh? and having that awful feeling of longing inside me. limited to not even be able to explain this to them fully because of my level of turkish..
being limited to wake up and see the same 3 houses from my bedroom window every morning... the same grey sky to give them that extra bit of emphasis...almost to rub it in... and ridicule me..
being limited to not being able to express your opinion if its not about the week's tv programme, in fear of being called "posh" or stuck up because i may know whats on the news or such.. whatever... :S
limited to not seeing other cultures or learning new things about different people any places... this must be hell on earth.. and i seem to have found it...
not being able to do certain things here and there becasue of racial discrimination...is life really worth it in this place??
and then to top it off... needing a cigarette.. and not being old enough to buy them!!
i doubt that this is the response that u were expecting but anyway... here u go... thats what i meant...

Hey Ceyda!
The Ceyda that I know is not a pessimistic girl. Yes, there are always times that we all feel down, but that doesn't mean that our future is not bright. And it's most likely to feel lost and miserable in the early ages. I'm older than you, but I have also the same feelings, because my life hasn't settled yet and not knowing exactly which direction to go makes someone unhappy.
There're so many young people that would want to live abroad, they think that happiness is outside. If you feel yourself belong to somewhere else, there's no nice place out of it. It looks that you've been grown up in a Turkish culture although you've spent your life in England.
But try to enjoy your multiculture, it's really a different thing to have parents from different cultures. I'm also half turkish ethnically, but if you ask what I feel, I feel like a Turk. You're always a bit different than others, so I think it's a good thing besides its disadvantages...
Don'T be pessimistic, life is full of surprises.
The years pass reallt fast, so don'T think that time for you to go to Turkey will never come. You can make plans to come to Turkey in the future.

Dear Ceyda,
Just think we have to live here all the time with grey skies.
I believe it is funnier living in Turkey than here in England as some Turkish man told me.
I would love to live in a country with blue skies and better weather, most of it all the year round. It is better for our happiness, as this is what sunshine does to us.

Hmm! I totally agree with you at this point. I have never lived in England, but there aren't too much word and idiom in English regarding the sun, which confirms what you have said.

Jda,
I'm sorry u feel so bad about staying in the UK, but try to make the best of it. Don't snap to decisions. You're still so young so do enjoy it. Think about it this way: maybe living in the UK gives you more opportunities than Turkey would. You may get a good education over there and then move to Turkey if that's where your heart belongs (and I guess it does after reading ur essay). Just, like Bliss said, keep your beautiful smile on and focus on some goals achievable in the UK. Whatever will be will be. Don't lose hope! As for fags....poor you

Miss Ceyda - never feel scared of seeming "posh" for knowing what's going on in the news or in the world - this is a form of education in itself - and education is one of the most important things in life. There is always so much to learn - pity people who don't want to know what's going in the world - or about other cultures - they are the ones whose lives are less enriched. Pity them.
But as for the cigarettes - be grateful you're not old enough to buy them
It's great that you're part of two cultures and that you want to learn so much. Cling onto that. And one day... you'll be able to leave the grey behind

I sent her the message! Thanks to everyone for their advice and help.
If anyone has anything else to add, please let me know.
As for Miss Ceyda, focus on the opportunities available to you in the UK. Turkey is a wonderful place, but in the UK, you can become well-educated enough to one day relocate to Turkey and help in the advancement of its economic and socio-cultural spheres perhaps.
Anyways, I wish you the best!
Andrew

I am not a Turkish Lady though I feel it doesn't matter the culture when making someone feel beautifull we are all human, but if I am wrong and there is a certain way for these actions when speaking of Turkish ladies as I am curious.
So does that mean Turkey men have preferences to when being approached on a intimate or loving or caring way?
Take care

i think what i have really learnt is instead of actually keep telling myself to wait and to be patient, which i did anyway,,, i actually have to do it.. and im sure it will be one of the hardest things i ever do, because i love turkey... actual love i think... its such a beautiful place, so... magical but ur right too, insallah my time will come.. and i will live happily ever after eh? :

i think u are right about the education etc. because i have had a good education here, i do admit it. and i really dont want to make snappy decisions, but i do that a lot: its almost a habit i think hehe but my family is planning to move their in a few years anyway.. so if i move their next year, wheres the harm? it will do wonders for my turkish, and then i can start my career
right now though, im starting to worry about break time in 15 mins. two words: FIELD, CIGARETTE oh yeah... 3 words, & COLD
and where did u read my essay from? has it been uploaded to this site yet? or did u read it on sesli? i cant find it on here!!!
