for example -mali/meli is something like must or should
Hastayim, doktora gitmeliyim.
I'm ill, I must go to a doctor.
but you can also say:
Cok hastasin, mutlaka doktora gitmen gerek/lazim.
You are very ill, you have to go to a doctor.
or you can also use: gitmek mecburiyetinde olmak, gitmeye mecbur olmak or gitmek zorunda olmak/kalmak which is, as far I know, the strongest
the differences in meaning among them are very delicate, so I think some natie speaker shoul explain it, because I'm confused about using them sometimes.
I think use of them is more intuition than gramatical rule.

arkadaş -friend
arkadaşlar -friends
arkadaşların- your friends
-la/le (depends on vovel harmony) suffix that means with
you can use it other words:

çiçekle - with a flower
çocukla - with a child
onlarla - with them; but:
benimle - with me
seninle - with you
onunla - with him/her
you can also use "ile" which is written separately and doesn't depend on vovel harmony:
çiçek ile - with a flower
arkadaşların ile...etc

I wouldn't say thet terrorism there is a problem. I suppose your boyfriend afraids of your reactionmaybe, because yes, Diyarbakır is a big city, but everywhere around you can see real poverty. maybe he worries about the people's reactions, because the more eastern part of Turkey, the more religious. I remember that everyone was looking at me everywhere, whatever I was wearing ( believe me, it wasn't short skirt and top but generally jeans adt t-shirt) it was funny for the first week, a little bit irritating for the second, but after that I was mad and I could kill anyone who was staring at me. My boyfriend lives in Malatya in eastern turkey and he doesn't seem really scared or something. As he says, what can we do?
He doesn't have any contacts with birds, especially the dead ones (don't forget that children who died, were palying with dead chickens, and that we are talking about the very eastern part of turkey, about little city Dogubeyazit, near to eastern borders of Turkey).

So don't panic! Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya is much farer from the birdsflu than I am from it (there were also cases of illness in Ukraina, which is problably closer to my Krakow than Dogubeyazit to Izmir)

I' thinking about going to Istanbul with Erasmus/Socrates schlarschip. But to fill the forms I need to find out which of subject I have to attend in my university are also in Istanbul Universitesi. But it is impossible for me to find out it because the web pages of particular faculties and departments of IU don't open.

sociology of art ( or some subject connected to general sociology or cultural sociology)
methodicts with elements of art ( or any pedagogical subject connected to art or culture)
marketing of art ( or any subject connected to economics in art, media economics etc)
graphic designing
history of art, especially classic Ottoman Architecture and Art ( I found only the Turkish version of this course: Klasik Donem Osmanli Sanati - and this is exactly what I need, but I cannot find anything in English about this course on the website)
