im sure that you guys are soon gonna be sick of reading my long thread like this.. im really sorry to keep being a pain...most people just want a couple of translations here and there.. but look at me... i really have to brush up on my turkish though, as many of you know,,, im going to turkiye in the summer and also have 3 or 4 turkish GCSEs coming up.. i actually discovered the dates of them today... 12, 15, 19 & 22 may... the 1st one is the speaking exam...! im SCARED!! any help you may wish to give me in addition to this would be greatly appreciated... hehe.. i know i sound a bit cheesy here but im willing to even beg, look, just to learn this... anyway, sorry to jibber or as usual, you know me.. 1. how is "hatta" used?
i know that it can be used to say the equivalent of "online" although i have heard it used other places. where?
2. please can i have some more examples and a quick explanation following this rule:
"geldiysem"= "if i came"... why is "gelseydim" not used??
i know that gelseydim would be used in conjunction with "keske" or to highlight that the statement is something whivh never happened. although where can geldiysem be used..? im confused...!
3. why and where is "yeterince" used? why not yeter or yeterli...?
4. is "temasta kal" the equivalent of "stay/ keep in touch"...??
5. milli piyango= national lottery.. is this correct? wouldnt it be, "milli piyangosu"...??
6. im not sure if this is right or not, it was a given example a while ago and iv just got round to re- look at it,
"beni tren istasyonunda karsila"= meet me @ the train station...??
7. kafayi cekmek= to get drunk (slang)
so to say, "im gonna get drunk" would it be, "kafayi cekicem" or "kafami cekicem"...??
8. yetismek= to grow up
what? physically? emotionally? i dont understand what this means. maybe i have asked this before although i cant find that thread now! sorry.. its not like me to be this silly eh?
9. gitsek de kalksak da fark etmiyor= it doesnt make a difference wheter we go or stay.
but surely it should be gitsek TE kalksak TA...?? degil mi?? :S
10. what the hell is salep?? is it nice??
11. my book says that mantar means both "cork" and "mushroom".. dogru mu? i would look in the dictionary but for something like this id prefer to ask the actual speakers of turkish they are usually right
12. oki, i know that "onlarin cogu"= "most of them" so what about when i want to say,
"most days" or "most ceydas" ??
gunlerin cogu or gunler cogu
ceydalarin cogu or ceydalar cogu
aaahhh im confused people, badly.. please explain..!!
13. im guessing that "onceki gece" means "the night before" ha?
14. i'll stay there for 7 days= ??
is "icin" used here or the "-lik" suffix??
15. yemek seviyorum= i like/ love food (im not being specific) is this correct?
i think i once said this and someone corrected me by saying, "yemegi seviyorsun". was i wrong or did they think i was being specific...?
16. "bakkal cakkal"= the grocers and the like
what the hell does that mean man? is that ever even used?? :S
17. "baltaburun"= hooked nosed
so would we say, "o baltaburunlu"...?
18. what does "aygin baygin" mean??
19. this example was in my book, look..
"avustralyayilar ingilizce konusuyolar"
why is it that two words have adapted a plural suffix..?? dont we only need the first one?? :S is it not incorrect with two like this?? can we use one some places and not others?? allah allah ya.. kafam harbi karisti
20. right, in the same book as i have already mentioned, i have also been given these examples...
pazar gecesi= sunday night
annd then, pazartesi oglen= monday afternoon
is there no suffix on the word "oglen" here??
21. i thought that "tanimak" could only be used when talking about people although i have heard it several other places for other things. is it used for places too?? what else can it be used for??
22. another example iv been given,
"sporu seviyor musun?"
why is it being specific here? surely the questioner doesnt want to say, "do you like THE sport?" aaahhh!!??
23. yalniz means lonely doesnt it?? .... yah, thats what i thought too... so why is it that i hear almost everyone saying YANLIZ??? buna gore, herkes kafami karistirmayi calisiyormustur... (also, please tell me if this little turkish comment is right hihihii, sagolun )
24. is there a large difference in "en son" and "son olarak"..??
25. does "gelcek ay" translate to "the forthcoming month"?? wouldnt it be better to say "onumuzdeki ay" ??
26. sirt= back
sirtim= my back
doesnt that T need to change to a D...?
27. whats the difference between "su an" and "su anda" ??
28. sen= you (singular) siz= you (plural)

hehe i dont know what GCSE stands for either actually.. although im doing about 15 of them! hehe
its the grade you get at the end of your 11th year at school
after the GCSEs i will go on to do A LEVELS at college..
and then i hope to obtain a diploma in TESOL
and dont feel embarrassed coz u dont know what GCSE stands for.. not many people do hehe
