hard to imagine that over 80% of the population in the world can fathom this.  They all must be crazy really.{#lang_emotions_you_crazy}

Maybe not crazy (well, some ARE), but uneducated or mentally lazy

There was a time where 100% of people believed the Earth was flat. Just because a large number of people believes in something, doesn´t make it true.

When do you think we human kind will be able to learn to respect other people´s right to live, and believe anything they like?

But most of the people like to believe what they can see and they can understand - don´t forget we only use a minor percentage of our brain... yet they think they are very clever, and things can not be possible if they can not explain with their little minds.  And if somebody else believes in it, they call them dumb.

There are so many things we see, yet we can not understand... and the moment we start understnding, then we say, ooo, I have made a mistake... it was right.

Oh I respect the right of people to live and believe what they want. They can believe that Mickey Mouse is god for what I care ... up to a point.

But if because of what they believe, they feel they have a right to tell others that they also have to believe it or otherwise they deserve to die, or to tell them how to live, what to eat, how long the hem of your dress should be, whom to have sex with, and what their genitals should look like .. at that point my respect ends.

And why do people think that religion has the answers to the unknowns? If you don´t understand something then it has to be god? Why? God is a poor alternative explanation for anything.

Merih, nobody called anybody ´dumb´ here, and nobody disrespected anybody´s right to believe in anything. I think that you find it very threatening when someone questions faith, but those are actually the people who have never had their due respect to express THEIR beliefs freely! Maybe what you wrote here should be directed to religious people.

Excellent point! {#lang_emotions_flowers}

The religious are not exactly known to "respect other people´s right to live, and believe anything they like"

I think faith can be compared more to the lack of a sense (like blindness or deafness)  ... equally inconcievable if you haven´t experienced it, but a deficit none the less. Deficit in using one´s mental faculties and rational thinking skills.

And it is inconcievable indeed  that in the 21st century people still believe in virgin births, ressurections, and people flying on magical horses.

 Catwoman, this is not what I don´t like... I am sorry, but according to me, Deficit in using one´s mental faculties and rational thinking skills means dumb... I don´t feel threatened.  But I don´t understand Melek´s agression as the discussion was something else, if you read the threads... it was not forcing anyone to believe it, or not to believe it.  We were discussing the basis of Mary´s virginity by religious texts.

 They were not educated or lazy, they just did not know that earth was not flat... And I don´t think it relates to religion people believing in virgin births or resurrection...

 Nobody here is emposing any ideas you have mentioned above.  You don´t need to be threatened.  Nobody cares whopm you have sex with or what your genitals look like.

And, once again, please read the thread, nocody turned to God, because we did not have an explanation..

Please please before you start saying something, please first understand the pretext, and put your prejudice aside. and then make comments.

 Yes, I think these should be written to people who are extremists, or emposing their religious beliefs on others.  I did not tell anything about my faith, so there is no reason to feel threatened.  But like everything else, everybody assumes something and then expresses their fear and weakness by agression.

I am responsible for my own conduct, and i am not going to discuss anything about what I believe or what is right for me regarding religion.

I think you misunderstood my post. The mental laziness or lack of education refers to the 80% number given in another post of people who believe in virgin births for example. I brought up the fact that people use to believe in that the Earth was flat to illustrate that just because many people believe in something it doesn´t mean that something is true, ergo, just because 80% of the world  (and I think it´s a hugely exaggerated number) believe Mary was a virgin, it doesn´t mean she didn´t get knocked up.

I understood that sentence as "deficit in using" -- meaning "not using", that doesn´t mean "not being capable of...", that´s why I didn´t think there was anything wrong with it... Maybe a clarification would help (and apologies for the misunderstanding)... There are lots of very smart people who believe in irrational things and there are lots of atheists who have irrational beliefs about other subjects. I think we can strive to avoid irrational beliefs, but we are all prone to them... and there´s really nothing wrong with us because of doing this, but I think basic human respect should always be a top priority. Unfortunately, religious people are not known for their tolerance and respect..

I don´t understand where you got the agression from, but ok, your right to perceive my posts anyway you like it.

If a person believes that Mary could give birth to anybody while being a virgin, they are not using their rational thinking skills (or perhaps they are seriously deficient in the knowledge of reproductive biology). You can be offended about it if you like. I´m not going to pretend I respect absurd and preposterous beliefs in the name of being sensitive to the religious.
