Catwoman, this is not what I don´t like... I am sorry, but according to me, Deficit in using one´s mental faculties and rational thinking skills means dumb... I don´t feel threatened.  But I don´t understand Melek´s agression as the discussion was something else, if you read the threads... it was not forcing anyone to believe it, or not to believe it.  We were discussing the basis of Mary´s virginity by religious texts.

I don´t understand where you got the agression from, but ok, your right to perceive my posts anyway you like it.

If a person believes that Mary could give birth to anybody while being a virgin, they are not using their rational thinking skills (or perhaps they are seriously deficient in the knowledge of reproductive biology). You can be offended about it if you like. I´m not going to pretend I respect absurd and preposterous beliefs in the name of being sensitive to the religious.

Jesus´ mother came from Palastine.  Jesus was not a Jew because a "Jew" is a person who follows the jewish religion, not a race.  Most theologists now agree that he was either Arabic or African

ae, you usually back up your claims and demand the same from others. can you enlighten me?

Nice and eloquent ... makes it almost sound like faith is something desirable.

I think faith can be compared more to the lack of a sense (like blindness or deafness)  ... equally inconcievable if you haven´t experienced it, but a deficit none the less. Deficit in using one´s mental faculties and rational thinking skills.

And it is inconcievable indeed  that in the 21st century people still believe in virgin births, ressurections, and people flying on magical horses.

Just for the record.... the word "Jew" did not come into existence until 1514 A.D.

it has no significance if we call them jews or hebrews or israelis. we still talk about the same people.

It is a transliteration for Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, twin brother to Esau, sons of Isaac, son of Abraham, who was Assyrian from Asher Genesis Chapter 10:6-14. Within that line of descendants, you find Asher in verse 11; these were descendants from the sons of Ham, which means burnt black and has been verified to be Sudan today, a Negro Arab country.

abraham seems to be from the line of shem not ham. plus, abraham was from ur (southern mesopotamia) that has nothing to do with sudan.

Perhaps we should be using the word "hebrew"...but then Teaship and her bible knows best

hebrews are jews. its just another name europeans called hebrews/israeli.

Actually, parthenogenesis does exist...(a scientifically proven fact only recently) so don´t be so sure.....do you really know what happened a couple of thousand years ago?

Nobody here is emposing any ideas you have mentioned above.  You don´t need to be threatened.  Nobody cares whopm you have sex with or what your genitals look like.

And, once again, please read the thread, nocody turned to God, because we did not have an explanation..

Please please before you start saying something, please first understand the pretext, and put your prejudice aside. and then make comments.

Maybe nobody cares about whom I have sex with, but tell this to the women who get killed or beaten up for not being virgins or for adultery in some parts (the more religious ones) of the world. Or tell it to the women who get their genitals mutiliated or even the millions of men who have to get circumcised without their permission.

Do take your own advise and understand the context of my post before you comment as well. I was responding to Alameda´s comment about what faith is like, with which I disagreed, as I have a right to do and express it here, and not to anything you wrote.

I´ve just googled it and found that it was in Efes that Mary was recognisedas the mother of God. Like many things Christians believe until nowadays, it was a conscious decision of bishops (same as the concept of Holy Trinity). I´ve read somewhere that the idea of Mary being a virgin in the modern sense of the word results from failing to notice that in the past young unmarried women were called virgins and it had nothing to do with sexual activity.

Tami wonders about Joseph, the way I see it, he knocked Mary up, then either married her or was with her and I´m sure they had more children that Bible or Quran do not speak of. Somehow I find it impossible to believe that a healthy young guy would live with a young woman and raise her son without doing IT. But that´s common sense applied to events in the dim past. I doubt it´s ever going to be properly researched. Especially now that religions bring in so much profit. Yet I find it quite fascinating how a simple guy from the middle of nowhere managed to be recognised as a prophet and is adored by many until this day

well, joseph was never considered to be a young and healthy man. he was about at his 44 and mary 15. yes, they did have other children, they are mentioned in bible.

could you elaborate more on the profit that religions bring?

I don´t think faith is about lack of rational thinking or mental deficiency, there wouldn´t be so many scholars and scientists who are believers. I think it´s got more to do with hope. People hope there´s somebody out there who makes their life meaningful. Obeying religious codes is to ensure them safe future and works as consolation (as in I have a sh**ty life here but it will be better after I die).

Some people, myself included, are devoid of delusions.

Melek has a point when she talks about the cultural aspect of religion. Instead of being peaceful clubs for people with similar views, they´ve turned into political unions and guardians of prejudice and hatered. People are cunning animals so they´ve learnt how to cheat on their believes and use them as an excuse of their wrongdoings.

....so under that rationalization...does it make a difference if we call them Arabs, Palestinians, Canaanites....or whatever?

The Levant has been populated a very long time by many different people, actually going all the way back to the Neanderthal...
