Education is not about creating doctors, education is about creating opportunities for people to reach their full potential! Doctors should be the smartests students, not the students with the richest parents.

And also, research doesn´t show that woman only want to get married. There is a direct link between the level of education of women over time and their need for marriage. In societies were the overal level of education and job-level of women is lower, the need for marriage is higher. Even for the one woman who is higher educated. But if women are brought up from a young age that they can take care of themselves, and they should get married for love, not for societal status, the need for marriage is lower.

This may be all true as a perfect scenerio that woman wish, however the articles written  was not for every country and every woman what it was about was one country one society and one mindset. It was about the lack of desire for education for many students. It was about the amount of drop outs. How they feel discouraged. It did get onto the woman subject only through the mention of the amount of girls that drop out. The main issue is how the education system is completely failing the society.

I think rather we would do well to consider just what is "education" What do you mean when you say someone is "educated"? I´m afraid many so called "educated" people are rather trained, like rats to run around the maze, or some other meaningless feat. Classic education was not vocational training, but rather the humanities and how to think.

Don´t we need artists? What is wrong with cleaning streets, getting married and being a homemaker? When all is considered, isn´t the thing most desired thing to have a good home?...to go home...the shipwrecked...the hostage....all dream of going home. Is there any more precious time spent than that being with loved ones, watching and guiding children, showing & sharing the wonder of things to a friend?

I agree it is very sad but remember  they all can´t be doctors and engineers someone has to clean the streets and work at McDonalds to keep the smart ones comfortable also these are the people that keep Turkey stuck in the middle ages.

As for the woman it is typical and they don´t actually need higher education - I read a report that the woman even with a good education only wish for one thing {#emotions_dlg.holy} to get married and have a man look after them.

My opinion of an education isn´t necessarily one that includes a higher education.  I think it is fairly accepted around the world that a good basic education (reading, writing, basic math) enables you to explore more options and to have more control over your destiny.  I don´t personally have a problem with homemakers.  I have a problem with that being the only choice for women.

Excellent points. However, I must say, I find it depressing how homemaking has become a disparaged profession. Even those that engage in it, underestimate what it actually entails. It appears our most precious life functions have been given up to profit making institutions. Home, and what it takes to be home, has been commodified .

Think about it, in the old days homemakers knew a zillion home remedies for various issues, things like vinegar or baking soda for acid indigestion. tea eyewash for itchy eyes, various teas for different conditions. Now, pop a pill, go to the doctor and get pre$cribed $omething.

Certainly a being a homemaker demands an education. One should know something about nutrition, food combination. When I read recipes now days it is amazing to read add a package of this, a can of this...that is not cooking from scratch..............and why does just about everything have chicken broth in it? If I want chicken soup, I´ll make chicken soup, but I want my mushroom soup without chicken. I want fresh tomatoes, not canned tomatoe paste with G-d knows what additives. Nobody seems to have time to properly prepare things. We are in the era of shortcuts, everything is streamlined.

Well said, Alameda!

Homemaking is the most difficult job, thats why men avoid it. It requires everything and pays nothing! It requires intelligence and all skills. You are a full time (a bit of) doctor, pharmacist, nutritionist, babysitter, teacher, advisor, psychologist, team supporter, driver, secretary, coook, cleaner, fashion advisor, decorator, party planner, hostess etc.

Having mentioned all above homemaking unfortunately is still ridiculed, laughed at and not appreciated esp by those so called "high" educated.

The most important Ive forgoten to add is sex (love making), the main skill to keep the two together. Not everyone can be this skillfull.

I don´t think any of the choices a woman makes are easy.  Personally, I have been a homemaker for a period of time and have also had a successful career.  Both where my choice and I could not have done either of them without an education.  Not having to depend on a man for income can be a powerful tool.  For example, if your husband turns out to be abusive or a cheater, an educated woman has more power to make choices...more options.

Agreed, only I would say choices anyone makes are not easy. Education is key, but my only question is what constitutes education. When I was in University I realized I knew nothing about basic survival.

In the end, we all depend on each other. IOW nobody is independant, not really.....but of course I agree with you regarding any woman who HAS to depend on the generosity of anyone is in potential trouble.....

talk about acceptance and tolerance of others and brotherly love, seems like anything is considered punishable by death, why not condem to death the blonds, the short people or the tall ones or maybe the ones with blue eyes, oh why not women with short hair and men with long hair!

seems we do not learn from history but are bound to repeat the same stupid things over and over and over again.

I think being a homemaker is a choice a lot more people would love to be able to afford. Let´s face it, double income is better than one. Not to mention the fact that some people love what they do professionally and do double work making both worlds, work and home, function. Ideally nobody would have to work and both parents would be bring up their children. However, the reality is different, either they both work or they do the maths, calculate the cost of childcare and the one with smaller income stays at home.

I wouldn´t say that being a homemaker is something society looks down on, perhaps it depends on where you live. In Poland 90% of my friends with kids work, In Ireland it´s a lot more usual to be a SAHM (stay at home mum)

yeah, and the mortality rate back then and now is slightly different, isn´t it?

I really don´t know why people insist on using natural stuff and self-medicating. Why would somebody want to use methods that haven´t worked that well in the past? True, our body has the ability to self-heal so obviously even if you do nothing, the chances are you will survive many diseases. Or you don´t - that´s natural selection we´ve grown smart enough to trick. Hence the meds. Why somebody would want to lower their chances of survival is beyond me...

Organic farming and organic cooking is a lovely idea, too bad even growing your own stuff you can´t be sure it´s not GM because of the seeds. There are many civilisational traps, being unable to control what we´re eating is one of them. I don´t know what´s worse: a GM tomato or one with the whole Mendeleyev´s table on it...
