U.S. President goes back on his pledge again

April 24, 2011 | 07:59

Since being elected U.S. President, Barack Obama has made his third address to the Armenian community in the United States in commemoration of the *** Armenian Genocide.

However, as during his previous addresses, the U.S. President used the term Meds Yeghern (Arm. Great Massacre), without qualifying the crime as genocide.

U.S. Congressmen Frank Pallone and Ed Royce called on the U.S. President to recognize the *** Armenian Genocide.

In his address Obama said the 1915 killings of about 1.5 million Armenians proved “one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century.” In his statement, Obama said "contested history destabilizes the present and stains the memory of those whose lives were taken." He said America knows this from the dark chapters in its own history.

Armenians in California and the System of a Down leader held protest against Barack Obama.

“I have consistently stated my own view of what occurred in 1915, and my view of that history has not changed. A full, frank, and just acknowledgement of the facts is in all our interests,” the U.S. President said.

“I support the courageous steps taken by individuals in Armenia and Turkey to foster a dialogue that acknowledges their common history,” Barack Obama said.

The Republican Party of Armenia states:

In his address Barack Obama pointed out Armenians’ contribution to various areas of life in the United States. He stressed that the 1915 events must be a guarantee that the “devastating events like these are never repeated.”

One of Barack Obama’s election pledges was to recognize the Armenian Genocide. However, he has gone back on his pledge once again.

*** Controversial subject. Armenians and Westerners accept it, but Türks deny it!

Such a shame! Obama don´t forget what you promised to Armenians. Why don´t you keep it. We are sick of this "The president of the USA will say ´genocide´ this year, no he will not say it" thing every year. Just keep it, and then let´s see what will happen.

French Senate kills Armenian genocide bill

The French Senate on Wednesday rejected a bill penalizing the denial of Armenian genocide claims, removing a potential extra hurdle before Turkish-French relations.

The bill, which was recently rejected by the French Senate Constitution Commission as well, envisioned five years in prison and a fine of up to 45,000 euros for people on French soil who deny genocide claims. The bill was not endorsed by the French government either.

Translation:

Fox TV was fined by RTÜK because of their wedding program during which a 15 year old girl was offered to marry a guy 30 years older than her.

French official wants to submit new bill on *** Armenian Genocide

Deputy Mayor of the French city of Sarcelles Francois Pupponi said he intends to once again present a bill criminalizing the *** Armenian Genocide in the National Assembly of France.

The move came after French Senate rejected the bill penalizing denial of the *** Armenian Genocide on Wednesday with 196 votes “against” and 74 “for”.

“We have to go back into battle,” he said adding that new text should be submitted to the National Assembly, reported Nouvelles d`Arménie, newspaper of Armenians of France.

Presidential election can further the struggle as candidates will have to adopt official position, he said addressing hundreds of Armenian demonstrators gathered near the French Senate.

Incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy promised his support for ratification of the bill prior to his election as a president in 2007.

Something REALLY absurd caught my eye. Yes, even more absurd than the Armenian genocide issue (seriously.... this thread needs to be more varried). Some news from my own country made me feel completely sick today.

Some parents offered their 8 year old daughter on the internet for sex! The parents, 44 and 43 years old, made sexual pictures of their daughter for the negotiations via email. They wanted to offer their daughter to trade for a loan. The man they had contact with was a 32 year old man who was also arrested by the  police. The parents where caught when a family member used their laptop and found the email contact between the parents and the pedofile. The family member immediately contacted the police. The child has been brought to a safe location, and the parents and the man are in prison, waiting their trial. Police is investigating if the parents had already done this before, and if the child had been sexually abused. Horrible...

Personally, I thought it was striking to see where the parents are from. I know the village they are from, and this is a highly religious area. The kind of place where nobody goes outside on sunday, except to go to church.

Jamie Knowlson, 30, also draped slices of meaton railings outside the mosque as his victims prayed inside.

He was then caught on CCTV hurling abuse at worshippers after they confronted him over his s act.

Islam teaches its followers to avoid pig meat as it makes them impure and unclean.

Knowlson initially told police the stunt was a drunken joke but later admitted that he was fully aware of the offence his actions would cause.

He pleaded guilty to causing racially or religiously aggravated harassment and could have been jailed for up to two years.

But he walked free from Bristol Crown Court with a suspended six-month prison sentence because he had returned to the mosque to apologise for his actions.

Sentencing, Her Honour Judge Carol Hagen said: ´´It is difficult to imagine a more offensive incident.

´´Not only the fixing of meat to railings but aggravated, in my view, that members of the mosque were inside praying at the time.´´

The Turkish Football Federation, or TFF, warned Chelsea not to make an offer to Guus Hiddink while the Dutch coach is still under contract as Turkey’s national coach.

Speaking to daily Hürriyet, TFF President Mahmut Özgener said an official complaint would be forthcoming, as the Blues are reportedly trying to lure the coach away from the national team.

“Chelsea has a past record for signing players who are under contract, if the same thing happens, we will make a file of the payments we made to Hiddink and we will go to FIFA,” Özgener said.

Özgener said he spoke to Hiddink after Turkey’s 1-1 Euro 2012 qualifying group game against Belgium on Friday, but was frustrated to hear through the grapevine that the Dutchman had effectively made a farewell speech to the players.

“After the Belgium game I went to the dressing room and asked Hiddink what he would do,” Özgener said. “He replied, ‘I will go to Turkey’s B team match and then go to South Korea for a charity match.’ But after that I learned he had told different things to the players. He should have told me what he told the players.”

The TFF should be paid 3.5 million pounds as compensation if Chelsea signs Hiddink, according to federation officials.

I hope he moves to Chelsea. So that we can get rid of him.

U.S. Congressman, Suggests That Iraq Pay Back U.S. For War Cost

BAGHDAD -- A U.S. congressman visiting Baghdad Friday suggested that Iraq pay back the United States for the money it has spent in the eight years since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher spoke during a one-day visit by a group of six U.S. congressman. The California Republican said he raised the suggestion during a meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that some day when Iraq is a "prosperous" nation it pay back the U.S. for everything that it has done here.

"We would hope that some consideration be given to repaying the United States some of the megadollars we have spent here in the last eight years," Rohrabacher told reporters at the U.S. Embassy after the meeting.

He did not say what reaction, if any, the prime minister had to the suggestion.

The idea of repaying the United States for a war that the vast majority of Iraqis had no role in bringing about would likely gain little traction with an Iraqi public that harbors mixed emotions about the U.S. invasion. While many Iraqis are glad to be rid of Saddam Hussein, they blame the United States for the chaos and sectarian violence that followed.

Kuwaiti Political Activist Salwa Al-Mteiri Calls for a Law Permitting the Purchase of POWs in Order to Turn Them into Slave Girls

Following are excerpts a video posted by Kuwaiti political activist Salwa Al-Mteiri, which aired on the Internet on May 25, 2011:

Salwa Al-Mteiri: I asked [a Saudi mufti]: What is the law with regard to slave girls? The mufti told me that the law requires there to be a Muslim country raiding a Christian country – sorry, a non-Muslim country – and taking POWs. I asked him whether it was forbidden [to turn them into slaves], and he said that Islam does not prohibit having slave girls. On the contrary.

The law pertaining to slave girls is not the same as for free women. Free women must cover their bodies, except for their hands and faces. The slave girl must cover up from the bellybutton down. There is a big difference between slave girls and free women. With a free woman, the man must make a marriage contract, but with a slave girl – all he has to do is buy her. It´s as if he married her. So there is a difference between slave girls and free women.

Here in Kuwait too, I asked religious scholars and experts about this, and they said that for the average, good religious man, the only way to avoid forbidden relations with women is to purchase slave girls.

[…]

I very much hope that such a law is legislated. Just like they allow servants, they should allow slave girls and legislate a proper law in this regard. We don´t want our children to fall into the abyss of fornication and similar filth, God forbid. Allah willing, things will work out.

There are countries like Chechnya, which are at war with another country. In such a case, there must be POWs, so why not go and buy those prisoners? Is it better for them to be slaughtered over there? Go and buy them, and sell them to traders here in Kuwait.

[…]
