It's not the feeling itself that makes him immature, it's the reason for it and the way he manages the situation. Everybody wishes him well but at the same time it's like everybody's telling him it's ok to go ahead and kill himself. Of course it's a hard time and he needs all the support he can get, but maybe being a little tough and telling the things straight can do good, can open his eyes. It's not the end of the world, not even the end of his world...

I am not sure of the gender Anyway, it would be a change to start acting like 20 and not like 5 years old.
