Quoting mella:

As far as I know, it concernes all the words, not only suffixes. But there are some exceptions like "saat" and also other words that are Arabic in original.

Yeah - that is the only exception I could think of......but in that case do you sound the 'a' twice in speech?

Thank you bod for your interest. You can use your notepad located on top right where you log-in. Cheers.

I'd forgotten about that - had just opened a new window :-S

One question:
If only the first syllabul is allowed to start with a vowel and two vowels cannot exist in the same syllabul, how to you deal with "saat" ???

I am guessing at:
sa-at

But that breaks the rule of starting a syllabul with a vowel.

exercise 12:

I've done these three - but won't post my answers to give others a chance. But I'll compare my answers to the right answers when they appear!

This site and other sources say that there can never be two consecutive vowels in Turkish. Does this only apply to cases where a suffix is added to a word or is it true of the whole of the language including single words???

Cheers, Bod xxx

bod,
perfect. You are a syllabling master.

YaY!!!
Thank you very much - I've impressed myself, especially as it is less than two weeks since I first started learning Turkish......

Thanks erdinc for this very helpful lesson.
I've been really struggling with pronounciation and this is really helpful.

Couldn't resist replying. I love it!!!! You'll certainly be original. At least you won't bump into someone else in the same costume! Now I really will go...

Oh that's a shame. Well at least you got to celebrate your birthday in style! Right, on that note, I really should go to sleep now.... But nice talking to you! If I ever randomly (now that really would be random) bump into you in the street - I'll be sure to borrow your eyeliner!

You would be more than welcome!!!

And what would your costume of choice be?!

Depends if there is any kind of theme.......

But one of my favourites that I regularly go out clubbing in is my 'black fairy' outfit!!! For New Year we are going to a fancy dress event and I am thinking about going as a 'dead fairy' complete with gorey makeup to rival the most gruesome haloween party - just depends if I can find someone to help with the theatrical gore effects!
