I am sure people will start replying soon. I am exhausted after writng a long posting in another thread. So, for this thread I have chosen five of your questions and tried to answered them below. I will continue later if I can find some time, and nobody replies for the other questions.
1.
the same site states that to say im meeting mehmet
it is: mehmed'i görüşÃ¼yorum
but, i really thought that it would be: mehmet'le (or ile) görüşÃ¼yorum and i could swear that iv heard this before???
which is the correct term??
ali: you are right, the second one is correct, the first is wrong.
2.whats the difference between:
-ken(the ending) and iken (the single word)??
can we use them only at certain times or does it make no difference?
ali: semnatically there is no difference.. the only difference is that you use -ken as a suffix, and iken as a seperate word, but in practice -ken is used more often.
e.g. gelir-ken = gelir iken
3. ing'ye gidecekken, tr'de kaldık
meaning:
instead of going to eng., we stayed in tr.
doğru mu??
ali: dogru..
4.dört gözle beklemek= cant wait for sth.
how used? please give example inc. full translation!
ali: translation is correct..
example: I can't wait for talking to you = seninle konusmayi dört gözle bekliyorum.
5.
sınavda kalmak=to fail an exam
sınavımda kaldım does this mean i failed my exam ?? if it does, and i was right.. im gonna feel a right salak coz maybe its obvious
ali: translation is correct. You can also say "sinavda kaldim" instead of "sinavimda kaldim", both of them are correct.

People seeem to get scared of too many questions following one another under the same thread, which is not known to the users of this site. Just to encourage them a little more, I attempted to reply another set of questions below. Hope this helps.
6. is it onu vurdum or ona vurdum ??
once again, i could have been sure that i heard both??
which is the correct one..??
ali: "vurmak" has two different major meanings. Both of the examples are correct but in each of them, the verb "vurmak" gets different meaning..
a) vurmak: to hit sth/sb
ona vurdum = i hit him/her.
b) vurmak: to shoot sth/sb
onu vurdum = I shot it/him/her.
7. please give me 3 examples inc. these 3 words and the translation:
* anlanmak
* anlatılmak
* yaptırılmak
also, does yapıldı mean done??.. i think so..?
does anlan mıydım? make sense? meaning: was i understood?
actually here, i think have i been understood would sound better, so let me have a go at that one...(u gotta tell me if its right or wrong okey?)..: anlanmıştım mı?
ali:
* anlanmak: this is lamost never used, instead, what you want to use is anlaşılmak which means "to be understood".
was the question understood? = soru anlasildi mi? = was the question clear?
* anlatılmak : to be told/explained
New rules of the game has been told/explained = Oyunun yeni kurallari anlatildi.
* yaptırılmak: a)to be built, or b)to be forced to do sth, to be made do sth
Two new hospitals have been built = Iki yeni hastane yaptirildi.
The students were made do their hws at the school = Ogrencilere odevleri okulda yaptirildi.
also, does yapıldı mean done??.. i think so..?
ali:correct.
does anlan mıydım? make sense? meaning: was i understood?
ali: anlaşıldım mı? is the oen you want to use as explained above.
i think have i been understood would sound better
ali: yes, better.
8.whats the difference between,
ali, pencereyi kapadı
&
ali, pencereyi kapattı
ahh.. the second one i wrong dmi?.. or is it not? :S
ali: the verb kapa-mak is informal form of the verb kapat-mak. So semantically both sentences are the same, but the fist one can also be seen as a dialect of Turkish specific to a particular region. I recommend you to use the second one.
9.tada bakmak= to have a taste of
does let me taste it translate to:
(onun)tadasına bakayım ???
ali: the first translation is correct but the phrase is "tadına bakmak". the second needs a small modification:
let me taste it = (onun)tadına bakayım.
In Turkish, ignoring some exceptional cases, two vowels do not come one after another. There should a consonant betweeen them.
Therefore, for words ending with a vowel, e.g., araba(=car), you put 's' to make it arabasi(his car).
However, if the word ends with a consonant, then you can directly add ı/i at the end, without an 's'.
example: tad --> tad-ı
10.rastlamak= to meet by chance
is this used with the -e ending? ie: birbirimize ?
ali: the translation is correct.
Dun okulda ona rastladim. (see o-na)
Birbirimize rastladik. (see birbirimiz-e)
Cocuklara rastladik. (cocuklar-a)

"my boss and i get along very well"
