This thread was started by someone who had a positive experience and wanted to compare notes with people in a similar position when the thread was hijacked by the usual stereotypers. The 2nd and 3rd posts were correct when they said it was impossible to get a balanced view. What I cannot understand is the nastiness in some of the replies.
I have noticed this in other threads as well.

I agree with MLTM - the women are just as responsbible as the men and whilst there is a supply there will be a demand! And whilst the supply is increasing so will the demand - simple economics!

Mltm is known for her patriarchal, parochial, nationalistic ideas, so I'm not surprised to hear this biased, one-sided criticism from her. In fact I'm not surprised that you agree with her either, based on the history of your posts. You're just another example of a westerner that takes for granted the freedom she has, while being brainwashed with the mixture of outdated christian (and increasingly muslim), patriarchal and mysogynistic sentiments to the past and to the unknown, but exotic-sounding and looking east. Your opinions, while probably well intended, just bang the same old, backward mantra of women being guilty when they are raped, the "supply" being the cause of "demand", the offender being just a poor, little victim of HIS genes and background - absolutely incapable of making his own decisions and god-forbid having to take responsibility for them. It's exactly women like you and mltm who allow the continuation of the deplorable gender inequalities.

You should be more concerned with the nastiness of the reality. I understand though that your peaceful, full of love, little corner of the world might have been undesirably disturbed.

While I am personally disgusted by the behaviour of some men and women in these resorts, I think in most of the cases both parts are very much aware of what they are doing. They are playing it like a game - so let them do it and take the consequences.
But at the same time I have seen a few examples of both men and women who were really hurt when the summer romance ended, because they were looking for something more than the other part was.

+1000
This lot would manage to turn a request for the best way to make turkish coffee into a massive slanging match (sorry 'debate') - and I just noticed Capoeira's post at the beginning of this enthralling intellectual discussion!

Quoting Capoeira:

You are right. This topic has been written on and discussed to many times! Always with the same results...a huge debate about over-generalızation and the promotion of stereotypes!

....and how right she was!

I dont think the problem has anything to do with the men or women who chose to have sex with eachother on their holiday! That's their business.

The situation I have a problem with is those tourist workers who relentlessly persue european girls (and older women) with false claims of love and con them out of money (and sometimes their homes).

The pattern is usually the same....meet girl on holiday declare undying love within a few days...when they return bombard them with sms and emails....after a few weeks start telling them how unhappy they are....a few subtle requests start to creep in ("my cell phone was stolen".."I wish we could talk on msn but I need a laptop")....then soon the tourist season ends and they are talking about how they want to kill themselves because they are in debt...then how they wish they could be with you....

They forget to tell you that they have been doing the same with dozens of girls they met during the season.

Throughout this process the relentless sms and emails continue along the lines of "baby I need you/love you/I want to marry you/would die without you" and are nicely embellished by descriptions of the sexual acts they are going to perform on you.....

I have been a member of this site long enough to know the situation very well just by the translations!

The holiday season is upon us AGAIN now so the translations will soon begin at the first stage, and continue to the marriage part by the winter.

Of course, ALL of you will think your situation is "different" and its genuine love ....good luck!

No, sorry, but you are so so so so so wrong! What Azade is talking about is normal relationship issues. The problem, unique to Turkey, is about conning women out of money.

Yes people get conned all over the world Libralady. Is it wrong to try and open people's eyes so that they are NOT the next victim? Or do we just sigh with that self-satisfied smile of the "it's never going to happen to me" brigade?
Offfffffffffffff!
