Yes people get conned all over the world Libralady. Is it wrong to try and open people's eyes so that they are NOT the next victim? Or do we just sigh with that self-satisfied smile of the "it's never going to happen to me" brigade?

The situation I have a problem with is those tourist workers who relentlessly persue european girls (and older women) with false claims of love and con them out of money (and sometimes their homes).
The pattern is usually the same....meet girl on holiday declare undying love within a few days...when they return bombard them with sms and emails....after a few weeks start telling them how unhappy they are....a few subtle requests start to creep in ("my cell phone was stolen".."I wish we could talk on msn but I need a laptop")....then soon the tourist season ends and they are talking about how they want to kill themselves because they are in debt...then how they wish they could be with you....
They forget to tell you that they have been doing the same with dozens of girls they met during the season.
Throughout this process the relentless sms and emails continue along the lines of "baby I need you/love you/I want to marry you/would die without you" and are nicely embellished by descriptions of the sexual acts they are going to perform on you.....
I have been a member of this site long enough to know the situation very well just by the translations!
The holiday season is upon us AGAIN now so the translations will soon begin at the first stage, and continue to the marriage part by the winter.
Of course, ALL of you will think your situation is "different" and its genuine love ....good luck!

Déjà -vu (déjà -lu, déjà -entendu..) stuff this is (where's my *yawn*-smiley ). Why start this discussion over and over again? I thought past threads clearly show everything had been said about it?
Just let it up to the people involved in those things. Far too many words have been wasted on this subject.

I am a %100 sure that Libralady's words never had the underlying meaning that the woman is guilty when she gets raped.
There is a difference in being pushed into sexual actions and not being able to defend yourself, and having a (sexual) relationship on holiday and think of the birds and the bees and then get asked for money.
My opinion here might sound a little simple and superficial, which is because its getting late and also because these endless discussions have left me in between two opinions, but even after all the arguments, I cant help but think 'You should have seen it coming.' How can you trust a man (or a woman for that matter), when you've spend only 2 weeks with him, how can a love be genuine and be more than just a (temporary) infatuation? Im tired of writing 'ofcourse this is just a generalization and there are exceptions', I am aware of that, but in discussions like this you cannot avoid generalizations.
I can say I have lived nearly all my life in one of the most free countries in the world, and I know a many girl who wouldn't mind to take off her clothes on a first date. I don't see the raping-part in here, I don't see the part where she gets exploited by a man here. I don't see why the opinion of women being free in their sexual behavior, leads to the thought that a woman is guilty when she is raped.
Just wanted to point out that I don't agree with that point of yours Catwoman, Libralady's ideas are based upon what she knows about British women/girls, not upon her idea that a woman is guilty when she gets raped. Because being raped has nothing to do with demand and supply. It only lies in demand.
