Quoting kat007: Quoting Elisabeth:
Thank you so much for this post. I was talking to my husband about this last night as I had asked earlier in this thread if hijab was in the Quran or if it was a cultural thing. He told me that the veils were a cultural thing but that the Quran demands modesty. Whatever the case may be, I don't think there is anyway to NOT talk about religion on a Turkish Language website. I think these debates are SO important in todays world. Religion is one of the most important parts of culture and language is part of culture...how do we separate these? It is difficult. It is like talking about the weather but nobody can mention anything about the sky....it is a strange rule...but that is the culture of TLC so I will shut up now. |
Elisabeth, I wish my bf thinks like your husband on this issue. I think I can give up eating pork for this. |
I didn't give up pork!! But I promised I would never bring it into our home so that he would know whatever he eats in our home is safe for him. As for me...pass the BACON, CHEESE AND WINE!!

If you have such cultural differences while still bf and gf, you should consider very carefully if you want to continue with the relationship.
Things get MUCH MUCH worse after you are married |
İts forbiddn in İslam of course
But i guess they can talk about all those differences and she see where she stands, and if its applicable to her or not.

But you are not Muslim ! |
I know I'm not. You don't have to tell me.
He says "Not yet." Just thinking about it is enough to give me rashes. (From stress...not the religion itself, I actually like some/most of it.)

I'm not listening to anyone about Islam or religion on message boards or trusting such sources. Of course I'm researching it on my own. Anyways, I'm up to my eyeballs in bookmarked Islamic websites and I have 2 Qurans (will get more books later about Islam). So no worries about the studying...
Not hungry. I just had pizza. I hope they have pizza there . Actually, sushi would be better. As I think pepperoni has pork in it. (Oops...)
