Instead of continuing with this "eternal" debate, which has been discussed countless times on this site, which turns to anger and bitterness and then gets locked by a moderator, shouldn't we be asking WHY somebody would join Turkish Class for the purpose of posting this "warning" to the women of Istanbul?

It seems a strange first post for someone to make to me. After consideration, I dont think we should honour it with such interest

So, lets talk about.... food Any suggestions for dinner tonight?

Couldn't agree more - very good point AEnigma. I only joined last week and rules state religious discussions are forbidden.

So as I have been on a never ending diet - I feel like eating lots of food today. I have a pang for Gozleme with Kaşar cheese and potatoes mixed together.

Life without cheese is simply unimagineable. When I go to UK or Switzerland, I wish I could eat my way through all the cheeses available: Gruyer, Stilton, Gorgonzola, Cheddar, Mozarella bla bla bla

Anyway, I am eating some diet soup now - so off I go.

Afiyet olsun everyone whatever you are eating today !

First of all,i find it very offencive sentence to say 'covered people' !
And it give a racism smell too.

İf you dont already know its called veiled women, or women wear scarf, hijab, whatever, then you've been here enough in TC to know what you should call it

Covered people,is it new race or something ?!

Second,i dont object on the main concept, that Muslim women should wear headscarf, because its order from ALLAH,exactly as 5 Salat 'prayers' at the day,we dont argue this.
But as there are people dont pray, there are women dont wear it.
İts their choice, and they take the responsibility of it.

But the point here, well,im veiled too,but when i read the post i thought, ''well, people dont pray, dont fast, and you ask them to put on scarfs??''

When ALLAH ordered Hijab,HE did it after long time, after people understand İslam, after they have the faith in their hearts
They were praying ,fasting, not drinking alcohol.
Then ALLAH ordered women to put on Hijab.

Prayer,Fasting, are 2 of the main 5 things in İslam,so people dont do,excepting them to wear scarf?

We pray,to thank ALLAH for the things HE do to us.
We fast to share with our poor people their feelings.

İf we dont do all those,so you ask them why are you not wearing scarves ?!
Wearing Hijab is not just a uniform to say, heyy we are Muslims
İts a believe inside you,you do to obay ALLAH,so you bear it in hot days,in summer, when the sun almost over your head 40c or something and you are sweating feeling hot,and you cant even bear your skin, but you bear it and tell to yourself,im doing to obay ALLAH.
So no matter how hot it can be,you just have this inside you,im doing it for ALLAH
You feel you really do something and you will get rewarded later.
İf you dont have this believe inside you, what the heck will make you bear such a hot day and cover yourself up ?

So before you worry about how women in İstanbul look, worry about how women and men believe, what do they know about their religion.

Dont get me wrong,im not objecting on what you say,but its something coming from the heart, from Faith, its not just imige people put to look Muslims, they REALLY must be Muslims first, they must understand how.
So you must open hearts first, then let them decide

Canli, apologies if you misunderstood. I was not calling anyone a "covered person". I was saying "women who cover themselves" meaning cover their breasts, legs, don't wear tight clothing etc. I did not use the phrase "veiled" because it didn't describe what I was saying.

You saw my comments as racist? OMG! I give up!

Anyway, due to the the fact somebody wanted to get us arguing, this is now the Cheese Thread

Ok,that ıs how we wear Hijab here, some wear it shorter, some wear it wider, some just wear wide scarves and wide dress
But mainly, women and girls wear like this, and even shorter blouses.
Jeans are worn widly, and blouse are Cotton T-Shirts with long sleevs
Ahh,and many things new are fashinable this year.

İs this what you meant by Hijab?
Veiled women clothes

We normaly dont wear them that long,we just cover hips, some wear it cover waist, some wear it above knees, but not that long as in pictures.
Only fashion houses you can see it,or Midaged women can wear it
4oth and 50th,younger women and girls dont wear it that long

This thread is just about men ensuring that their women cover up themselves so that other men wont look at their girlfriends/wives. Its about jealousy, ownership and male insecurity...

Men oh men!!! What are we going to do about them? Can't live with them, can't live without them...

I dont understand your point Yes, I used the phrase "cover" meaning cover parts of the body. I have no misconception of hijab :-S

Canli, as I said, I respect religion but not hypocracy. I am not criticising hijab (where did you think that?) I am saying that it is unfair to call women in Istanbul "bad muslims", without criticising the men as well.

That is ALL I said.
ANyway, let the "debate" continue, I wont be joining you.

I think that if a person wants to cover up, they should be allowed to do so. But in all my experience here and abroad, it is those covering up that do not respect other ways of life. I have found that there are millions of lovely open-minded Turks, male and female, who strongly believe in the freedom of choice. But the overwhelming majority of covered up people say they believe in freedom, so long as it is there view of freedom.

As you say AEgnima, why is it in this area of the world, that women are always the focus of the blame ? Walk into any street here and see the 'sons' glaring at women, smoking, drinking, using bad language, but of course, it is fine for them because they are MEN !!!!

No woman (or man) EVER deserves to be punished for falling in love, desiring to wear a pair of jeans or anything else.

ANYWAY - I THOUGHT RELIGIOUS TALK ON THIS SITE WAS [U]BANNED][/B] :-S
