Very interesting post.

Scientifically shown here, is that Istanbul is not the best place to visit, if your intention is to get yourself murdered - during your next vacation.

You will have an obviously better chance in New York or Los Angeles. Istanbul murderes suck !

You want to spoil my next vacation? What is on your mind?

Britain named as one of Europe's crime hotspots
· Survey finds highest rate of burglary in the EU
· Assaults and hate crime also near top of league

Britain has the highest rate of burglary in the European Union and is also nearly top of the league for assaults and hate crime, according to a recent survey.
The EU crime and safety survey names the UK as a "high crime country" and says the risk of becoming a victim of the 10 most common crimes is, with the exception of Ireland, the highest across the European Union.

London also emerges as the "crime capital of Europe" with the likelihood of becoming a victim - mostly of a range of petty crimes - said to be higher than all other EU capitals and even higher than cities such as Istanbul and New York. (The Guardian)

I thought New York was very safe now actually. I think London is probably not a good place to be, but even there I never feel unsafe walking around, unlike some places I have been to

I was only trying to help those who wish to get murdered...
Have a look at following figures from Roswitha's link...

"For example...in the 1994 Interpol Statistical Year, there were 251 murders committed in Istanbul -- including sensationally-reported 'terrorist' killings. In Chicago the number was 1027, in LA it was 1556, and New York it was 2202. In the same year there were 197,148 reported robberies in Tokyo; 152,968 in Rome; 11,747 in Istanbul. Also in the same year there were 963 reported rapes in Vienna, 856 in Tokyo, and 41 in Istanbul..."

I have different destinations to recommend, if you prefer something else...

Then you are lucky - at least yours are illegal so there is a chance they will be sent home!

Frankly, since reading the Turkish nationalists comments on this site about European people buying property in Turkey and living there, it is the LAST PLACE I would ever consider moving to. I think the situation will only get worse and will become dangerous eventually.

You are so funny, Alpha. Middleaged and housewife? Maybe in Turkey I'm considered Middleaged, since the average longevity is 71. Not sure where you got your information, however you are wrong. lol

US thong bikinis? They are very appropriate as long as you have the body for them. Some people in the U.S. could stand to have a cloth wrapped around them, from head to toe.

I am surprised to see the UK in that list. I have never heard of compulsory seizing of property here. Usually an "offer they cannot refuse" is made

However, an interesting situation has occured in Portsmouth where a new road is planned. Residents were offered a substantial sum of money for their properties and everyone accepted except one house (my friend's parents!). The road has been constructed and the houses demolished until half way along. Then, the road ends suddenly at my friend's parents house!!!! Presumably they will just wait until their death, make an offer to the children of the couple, and then continue with the road until it reaches it's destination! lol

Alameda,
I know what your question is about now.
Yes, the state can forcefully buy land from private owners, at local market rates, to be used for public good, provided that a court order can be obtained allowing such an action.

I think the state can not use such land for objectives other than that declared to get the court order.

This case has some people nervous in the USA...

“This is about Lakewood's future. Lakewood cannot survive without a strengthened tax base. Is it right to consider this a public good? Absolutely,” says the mayor, who admits that it's difficult and unfortunate that the Saleets are being asked to give up their home.

The Saleets live in an area called Scenic Park, and because it is so scenic, it's a prime place to build upscale condominiums. With great views, over the Rocky River, those condos will be a cinch to sell.

But the condos can't go up unless the city can remove the Saleets and their neighbors through eminent domain. And to legally invoke eminent domain, the city had to certify that this scenic park area is, really, "blighted."

well..actually..I am quite conservative about swimming trunks.
My family ordered some shorts from an online cataloge for me without asking my opinion..
And than OMG blue shorts with purple points on it. They said 'oh but we will be wearing matching things'.
we went to turkey that summer and to the sea and my sister's husband come and asked me, smirking, 'was it really difficult to find those shorts?'
And it was the moment when my manly pride took its deepest wound.

Well teaschip1, my dear,

The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, whilst Erik Erikson sees it ending a little later and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65.
