No, on the contrary, I did not want to hurt you. I am forcing myself but I cannot do it with you because afterwards I feel really bad. I made the best decision I could for you. I know it was not very brilliant. The problem is there is no physical appeal between us. It is not the end of the world, you lived something and it is over. I did not cheat you about anything. I think it is better this way. Good bye.

"ten uyumu" doesnt mean only chemistry, it means "sexual chemistry". It literally means "skin harmony".

if you dont know about something please dont bother attempting to correct it.

"Ten uyumu, dokunmayı karşı koyulamaz hale getiren, feromonlar gibi hormonal, bilinçaltı süreçler gibi psikolojik ve tarafların birbirlerinin cinsel anlayışına hitap eden öğelere sahip olması durumu gibi, sosyal çerçevelerde iki kişi arasında meydana gelen olumlu ve çekici etkileşimlere verilen isimdir."

http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_uyumu

ten uyumu is not only sexual. its also a social aspect and interaction. if you say sexual chemistry than the other side will only understand sexuality. its a different way of saying "we dont go well together"

either way its something chemical. the whole reason why "chemistry" made its way into the slang was because of the "reaction" that happens between two people, hormonal, nerval or methapohrically speaking.

people will laugh at you if you say "skin harmony" to someone that you want to say there is mutual attraction between you two. because it means something that resembles to dermathology or spa.

"Skin and Body Harmony, LLC is a female owned skin care and wellness center in Stone Mountain, GA. you cant translate idioms literally.you need to translate them with other idioms or reference to its meaning.

-?!!?"

plus "physical appeal" definitely doesnt do, as the other side will simply think that he/she doesnt like him/her because of his/her physical appearance or just not "his/her type". ten uyumu is something that has almost nothing to do with physical appearance

Yes, you are right as always, and I agree with you that ten uyumu literally means skin harmony

Ten (skin) also may refer body (as in the following lyrics)

Soyun da gir koynuma / tenim ilaçtır benim {#emotions_dlg.whistle}

So, ten uyumu means  harmony between two bodies.

You know, higher sexuality is harmony between two bodies tuned up using the same tuner! {#emotions_dlg.super_cool}

It is not obviously wrong, actually  it is not wrong at all.  Forget everything and get on the street and ask 10 people on the street if what comes to their mind when they hear "ten uyumu" , 9 out of 10 will automatically say it is  "sexual harmony". Thats what that term means in people´s mind.

i dont think so. acutally many people think about touching when you say ten uyumu. rest thinks it has something to do with personal attraction http://eksisozluk.com/ten-uyumu--206199

but go in the street in an english speaking country and ask them what "skin harmony" is all of them will say something about dermothologic commercials. ask them "sexual chemistry" and they will ask you why you are making the distinction between chemistry and sexual chemistry, since one includes the other.

no we are clear on what ten uyumu means in turkish, we were just discussing how to express it better in english since its translation from turkish to english. translating TO english concerns what an average english speaker thinks when you say the word, not what a turk on the street thinks. and besides i alredy linked you to ekşisözlük which i believe to be as closest as we can get on the "streets" from the internet.

i will referr you to my first post where i linked gokuyum to several sources that shows that "skin harmony" really doesnt mean anything between the skin of two people. just make a google or youtube search

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=skin+harmony&oq=skin+harmony&gs_l=youtube.3...1215.3897.0.4065.12.12.0.0.0.0.152.1323.4j8.12.0...0.0...1ac.1.HZZ6DHCeAI0

To be honest, I have involved in many stupid arguments in the past too. And I realized that this type of arguments are just satisfying our egos but on the other hand it is being such a bad example for learners and it puts them off .

there is never a winner ..

lets go back to our main goal "teaching Turkish" [helping Turkish learners]

I agree withh Gokuyum, We should not involve our mothers in this. cos it is unacceptable and will cause a big fight.

In first I don´t blame learners who are share messages to know the translation ..and I have done it in the past ,,but I know after that .it is a wrong thing

so the big problem in my opinion it is thrown our personal messages for translation

I am really regret cause i have done it in the past

But I should to say something all translators here are very Respectable

Guys,

It´s just now that I returned to the forum and read all your messages. I could not believe my eyes when I saw 78 replies.

Let me tell you my opinion on the matter, that is neither Turkish or English

Although I would like to believe burakk´s translation more, because it´s less difficult to accept, I have to also pay attention to the number of persons who agree with gokuyum´s translation. Given the context only I am aware about, the "more than just sexual" chemistry applies, but I guess I will never know what he really meant exactly.

So thank you for trying to make it clear for me, no offense taken from the discussions you have had about my message. I have no problem about privacy as I am very much aware that I am exposing my personal life when requesting the translations.

You are an open person and there is a charming fragrance of honesty, stay that way.

Once there was a proverb in the translation section here, it came to my mind when I read the message....here it is:

Yol gidenindir peşinden ağlayamam. Yüreğim ahır değil her öküzü bağlayamam. ´I cannot cry after every one who leaves. My heart is not a byre, I cannot tether every ox there.´
