Hi all,
How are we all doing? Nesrin has a new date for her second holiday visa attempt this coming week and I am so nervous again. We have made sure that the two points we were refused on have been rectified and made sure we have enough information and documents to support our new visa application. I decided that my mum would be sole sponsor for her trip can anyone tell me do I need anymore information for her for this interview maybe there is something I have overlooked, thanks in advance

Thread: Best time to book a flight to Turkey?

Quoting Mina_TR:

I know this must sound stupid to some or maybe it was already asked in another post I have no idea, but I wanted to know if anyone here has ever booked their flights to Turkey 2 months in advanced?

I never did in all the time that I was visiting my husband (at the time fiance) in Turkey, I usually did my bookings 2 or 3 weeks before my actual travel and already fares are so high as it is for me to travel to Turkey from the USA. I don't want to pay more then I should and with the way the airlines changes prices all the time it's disgusting, one day it can be $800 USD and next week it can go up to $1,500 USD and back down again.

Anyone, your feedback will be greatly appreciated as I will be looking into flights to Turkey in August.

Hi Mina,
I think booking in advance has its advantages and also it depends on the time of year that is really important as to how airlines price their flights. I have been doing a little study and checking flights everyday for the last four months and found that you can book early and still get the same price a few months later, I really do think that sometimes they have many seats left on some flights and sell them always because people panic and think think they will not get a flight in time, this happened to me many times. I found booking flights in January and the first months of the year to be cheaper than anytime of the year.

On Expedia.com you can reserve a flight until the next day at midnight I wonder if this has anything to do with the availability? I also think that if you are prepared to take a flight with a connection you can find a cheaper fare, but of course it is much more hassle and stress. I also found that if you can travel early in morning for a flight you can see a reduction hope this helps
Best wishes

Hello,
I am not sure I passed on this information before and maybe alot of people have used this website before, it is a cheaper way to phone your loved one or relative from the United Kingdom to Turkey just by using an access number first, there is no catch and I have been using it to telephone Nesrin for cheaper calls. It works by using an access number which is found on the website http://www.telediscount.co.uk/index2.php for instance to call Turkey from the U.K. it costs just 5p minute that is all no hidden charges all you pay is exactly this. I hope some members may find it useful if you cannot use the website here is how it works.

To phone Turkey from United Kingdom:

To a landline in Turkey first use access number
0844 566 43 43 and then your number you are calling example 0090 212 for Istanbul then number (5p minute)

To a mobile in Turkey first use access number 0911 501 25 25 and then your number 0090 5 then number (15p minute).

Please use the correct area code here are some useful codes.

Ankara 0090 312 then number
Istanbul (Asian side) 0090 216 then number
Istanbul (European side) 0090 212 then number
Izmir 0090 232 then number

Rich, this particular ticket I booked with the danish agency Tyrkieteksperten and the flight was from Antalya-Billund and Billund-Antalya 3 months later. The tickets were pretty expensive because the AYT-BLL flight was just a couple of days before christmas. They could easily have sold the tickets to someone else but still refused to give any refund.
This has happened to me with another danish agency Anatolien rejser, and the german Condor as well

Come to think of it, some agencies offer the possibility of changing the dates but it's usually pretty expensive.

Hi Azade,
I really understand your annoyance the airline could have given you some sort of refund, they would have sold the tickets Azade to someone else I am 100% certain, so the airline makes the money you paid for your ticket which you lost then sells the same ticket for probably more than you paid to begin with, I think the airlines should have more sympathy for the customer but then they would not make their profits.

Hi,
I was looking at the different types of visa and fees you have to pay before you can travel from Turkey. The standard visa for 6 months travel costs 180.00 New Turkish Lira and is not refunded if you are refused then if you have to apply again you pay them another 180.00 Lira, what if you are very unlucky and you are refused a number of times this can be quite costly. I imagine the failed refusal visa payment is collected by the consulate and used to pay for all the illegal immigrants the U.K. have, where else would they get their coffers of money. I think if a person has applied for a visitors visa and gets refused surely there is a limit to how many times they lose their money does anyone know?

Hi Loveprague,

This is really weird indeed, they ask for the plane ticket for the visa application, so you should book it before applying for a visa, but it is not guaranteed that you can have the visa and they don't pay you for your plane ticket if you cannot get the visa or you cannot get the money refunded if you cannot get the visa from the airline.
A stick with all two ends are dirty, nowhere to hold it, as we say in Turkish. You have no choice but to follow the rules.

Well, I am giving examples from my life, but I had a similar occasion yesterday. I paid 2 times, 20 Euros each for delaying my departure from Korea. But yesterday, when I went to the airline's office and applied to delay my ticket for another 3 months, they asked for 100 euro that time. The reason was my ticket was out of delayable period and it should be extended. So the money I paid was extension money. I didn't understand why but had to pay the money to get my departure day delayed for another 3 months. So I paid 140 Euros for delaying a ticket for 9 months. Usually a plane ticket is usable for 1 year(as far as I know), but they asked extension money when I passed 6 months. I was careless to check the usage time for the ticket when I bought it. But I had asked what could happen if I want to delay the date and they answered that I need to pay some amount of money for delaying the date when I bought the ticket. But I didn't know that the ticket was for 6 months and they have never told me that.

Anyway,
Be strong ! Bright days are closer than you think !
My prayers are with you.

You do have to read the small print (as we call it) and I too found out to my cost once. I needed to cancel a flight to Istanbul, but I could only delay the ticket at a cost of £50 (GBP) and fortunately for me I was able to use the ticket within the year. Just had to phone when I wanted to rebook and that was it. But then you never expect to have to change your flight.

Everyone is behind you Loverprague and we all wish you success. Hang in there! Be strong and you will succeed.

Hi
Thanks it is great to know the support here is shown I feel a little humbled by the support. Thanks Rich and Nesrin

Hi Loveprague,

I'am so very sorry to hear about your misfortunes

I know there is not much I can say to you right now to help ease the situation, but only to offer comfort to you at this moment and to just say don't give up. Maybe there is a reason for all this because usually something else works out at the end of a bad situation.

I will pray that something will work out for you soon.

Hi Mina,
Thanks again for your replies, really I must say this that they do help me focus more and it is a big help

Hi SunFlowerSeed,
First of all it is so nice to have replies to my posts, I know I am not the only one that this has happened to and I do appreciate all the support and Nesrin also does I pass on the Turkish Class members posts and read them to her. I can see SunFlowerSeed that you have encounter some airline charges also with your travel I do sympathise with you for the charges you incurred, they are unformative when it comes to the rules and regulations on tickets and I do think big airline companies really have no heart. I hope those bright days come soon please

Quoting azade:

Sorry to hear about that Richard It also happened to me once, but they didn't give me any refunds at all so maybe you should just take it..?

Thanks Azade,
You did not get a refund Azade? could you tell me where you booked your flight and where you flew to and from it intrests me to see how these airlines work
Best wishes Rich

Hi all,
I am very disheartened about everything to do with travel and consulate, today I tried to amend my flight for my fiancee to travel to the U.K. for a holiday, she has to re-apply for her new visa and this first refusal holiday visa is non-refundable so she has to pay the consulate again her fee for a second visa. I telephoned my airline booking and they told me that if I cancel her flight which was booked in advance I would lose £130.00 of a flight that was priced at £183.00 so that means you only get £50.00 back the other couple of pound is for admin. I was offered an upgrade which they quoted me another £128.00 just to change date of flight plus a £35.00 fee on top for flight amendment. I am now faced with a dilemma do I cancel the already booked flight and lose the £130.00 and then have to book another one? or do I gamble and pay another £128.00 + £35.00 fee for a new flight with the problem of my fiancee still maybe not gaining her visitor visa. I have now lost all faith with the goverment and all services including British Airways along with the consulate. This has put also a huge strain on our relationship. I wanted to write this on the forum to emphasise the problems faced when trying to do things by the book. United Kingdom receive 660 new migrants a week coming into this country and yet I cannot get my girlfriend a visitors visa to visit my family for ten days holiday, really this is getting me so angry. I am afraid you have to take the once 'Great' Britian out and call it free for all Britian!

Hi,
Firstly I would like to thank all members on this forum for all the help and advice they gave to me and Nesrin it does mean such alot, I feel like this forum is the place to be when of course questions and advice on this very subject might just help someone else who may be going through the same scenario. I have an update today on this subject and hope that we can succeed this time. I have had good feedback off my local M.P. who I contacted last week with regard to their help and advice, they are now processing a letter for us and we also have enough other documents to prove our relationship should they need this. Thanks to Christine and Deli_kizin for the M.P. advice and cpupilot a very good idea about the flight I have looked into this aswell. Thanks SunFlowerSeed and ahalliwell each post I read and it is good to get your support. I hope that I missed nobody out here, we will just make sure now this week that we get everything correct and I told Nesrin to make sure her account status was properley accounted this is very important and I do pray we will succeed this time, we have new date for her trip so we just hope her interview goes without a hitch. I will keep you posted thanks all
Is that enough flowers?
