I get very emotional when I hear one famous song by him. So terribly  sad that he died from cancer. May he rest in peace and never forgotten.

Every Muslim is called upon to protect and deal with nature in a way that will lead to its own protection, as well as to benefit from it.

..............................................................................................................................................

It is He Who hath made You (His) agents, inheritors of the Earth,” reads the Qur’an (6:165), in a passage that is interpreted as referring to stewardship. Humans are also cautioned to “Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order” (7:56)—an order that is divine in nature: “And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance” (15:19).

In consideration of these and other such Qur’anic injunctions, Muhammad’s establishment of the first Muslim hima for the use of his cavalry in the wadi of al-Naqi, near Madinah, set the precedent for all subsequent himas as institutions that are ultimately derived from God. “There is no hima save for God and His Apostle,” reads a famous hadith (saying), often quoted in the literature on the history and practical applicability of himas.

Thread: New Year´s Eve break to forget the economic crisis

With just eight days left in the year, five-star hotels have drawn much attention due to their advertised New Year´s Eve events. Luxury hotels with Bosphorus views have a 90 percent occupancy rate to ring in the New Year. There are events to suit anyone´s taste. Prices start at 275 and go all the way up to 25,000 Euros. Hotels in Ankara, Antalya and Izmir are also starting to fill up.

Despite the effects of the global economic crisis, New Year´s Eve events have not stopped short this year. The events planned by five-start hotels in big cities such as Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara and Izmir, are leaving nothing to be desired. In Istanbul, hotels are charging from 275 TL to 25,000 Euros for a New Year´s Eve ball and a night´s stay. Tickets for New Year´s Eve programs, including a party and dinner are going for anywhere from 150 YTL up to 400 YTL. In Antalya, a one-person ticket for a gala menu starts at 90 YTL, with double rooms ranging between 135 YTL and 350 YTL.

Hotels, which were trying to compensate for the economic crisis, appear to have been successful with sales rates high just one week prior to New Years Eve. In Istanbul, hotels with views of the Bosphorus are reporting 90 percent occupancy levels. Meanwhile, the historical Haydarpaþa Train Station will for the first time ever be opened up to host a special event for New Year´s Eve. All of the entertainment locations in the alleyways of Beyoðlu have different programs for the evening´s celebrations, and there will be a special dinner in the site where the film Issýz Adam took place.

Strange things have been going on in Bodrum´s popular summer resort spot Türkbükü A 130-hectare region, forested by the preservationist organization TEMA has burned down three times, and now the files on the land, which had been sent to the ministry, have gone missing.

The TEMA Foundation, with a $350,000 donation made eight years ago by businessman Asým Kocabýyýk, had planted 86,500 trees in Bodrum´s popular summer spot Türkbükü. In order to prevent erosion, a wall was erected, and in order to stave off grazing a fence was put up.

In the summer of 2006, "a cause undetermined´ fire broke out which turned all of the trees into dust. TEMA once again planted 60,000 new trees. Then again in the summer of 2007, on the eve of the election the area burned down again. In fact it burned down twice. TEMA has not backed down and has put the area on their project program for 2009.

´THE PROJECT IS BEING TRIPPED UP´
Files have been sent to the Ministry of Forestry twice now for the project. However, strangely the files have gone missing. TEMA has now sent a third file to the Forestry Ministry. Someone related to the foundation stated, "The area´s possible annuity is making many mouths water, therefore, we are constantly being tripped up."
