Well done to toggle and chatterbox !!!

Mystery solved .... and we all got to learn a new word!

 Finding spices in other countries can be a problem. I try to learn the names for ones I need/want before going. I use herbs for their medicinal attributes as well as taste. Actually, all herbs do have some type of medicinal attribute.

That´s exactely what columnist do the majority of the time.  They take a piece in the news and elaborate their opinions supported by actual events.  I don´ t see how thehandsom is any different.  It is up to thehandome to select his topics, not you or I.  And it´s up to the reader whether or not they enjoy reading his columns.  So far thehandsome has had more publicity than any other columnist, he would do well at the New York Times...Big smile

 ............and when they do they clearly state WHAT is their opinion and what is fact.....and that is not what theH has done.  Of course he should select his topics......but he doesn´t have the stomach to take any criticism for what he says....IOW...some would call that "chicken".......

Yes, he would fit right up there with Judith Miller....ooops she´s not reporting for the New York Times now...seems her credibility has been squandered.

I think anytime anyone talks about politics or religion, there is bound to be some bias.  It seems ok to me that there is a place where people can write how they feel on this site and not have to worry about being raked over the coals for their thoughts.  If individuals would like to have a discussion about their opinions they can post on the forums.  I would hope that people are intelligent enough to read a column and then make up their own minds without anyone feeling that they have to set the record straight......Just my thoughts!

When you write a column it should be a stand alone document. What theH has done is use it to post his ideas under the cover of  "News from Turkey", not his perception of the goings on in Turkey...but "News from Turkey"....when it is in fact theH´s perception of things in Turkey.  News requires some statements be substantiated.....not just someone said such and such....with no supporting documentation.

Then he sees fit to change it every few days, erasing the former document.  This is the most bizzar column I´ve seen.  He is using it as his own personal "Bully Pulpit"

I have to say that if you want to be fair, you have to cry out EQUALLY when a Muslim man (like Mohammed Bouyeri) brutally murders and innocent man (like Theo van Gogh), for criticizing Islam, and millions like him threaten to murder others for criticizing Islam, and million of others chant "death to those who insult Islam". Be fair Canli and Alameda!!! All human lifes are equal!!! You are hypocrites if you only cry about lost Muslim lifes, or discrimination against Muslims by non-Muslims!!! The same exact, but opposite thing happens in YOUR culture and YOUR religion!!! Do you ever raise that problem as well or are you blind to it?

With that said, what happened in this incident is a criminal and absolutely atrocious murder. I can hardly believe this happening in a court. Absolutely abhorrent and just leaves me speechless. I hope she rests in peace and I hope that nobody who participated in this horrible cruelty goes unpunished.

I also have to say that I find the level of racism against Muslims to be very high and blatant. I am shocked at times how openly some people say racist things about Muslims in this country, it is just unacceptable. In fact I have seen a lovely, Muslim lady today in a doctor´s office who requested to see a female doctor (although she later said that she understood if we couldn´t provide her one), yet some of the comments that were made about this were just terrible.

Excuse me????!!!! How do you know I didn´t say anything about that?...but more to the point, what does any of this have to do with this case?

Have you ever worn a hijab?  I mean really, try it for a month or so and then report back on your experience.  What if the dominant society were a bare breasted lion cloth wearing one? Would you be comfortable going around bare breasted? Would you wear only a sarong, letting it all hang out, so you could "fit in"?

.............It would be a very serious accusation to assume that Canli and Alameda were indifferent to the murder of van Gogh. ..................

I think more to the point is the fact that the subject of this thread is about a innocent pregnant Muslim woman and her husband who were brutally attacked and stabbed (the woman to death) in a public court of law in the supposed civilized country of Germany.  The attacker was able to inflict 18 stab wounds on the woman....!!!!...and her husband who was trying to protect her was shot in his attempt.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freedom YES, they agree, they support with loud voices...but with another low voice they add...not for everyone !

Yes people are free and yes people are equal...but the point is...who are those people...that is the tiny ´but´ they add silently !

Ýts actually the people who pass their standards, not all the people !

Marwa El Sherbibi the 32 yrs old mother, Pharmacist and was also pragnent , and ex handball player at our national team wasnt one of those lucky people who pass the standards, so as easy as it can be he said ´ you dont deserve to live´ and stabbed her in COURT, yes you read correctly, in court 18 stabs, few of them nailed the husband when he throw himself on her to protect her when he got shot by the policeman gun..again let me repeat..got shot by the policeman in COURT and in front of their 3 old boy who talked to his uncle saying uncle i saw my mother and father been killed.and that happened to that boy..in COURT!

No that didnt happened in Ýran nor in Saudi Arabia...that happened in German!

The man said to her you dont deserve to live then killed her after harassing her for whole long year.

Why?

Well because she was Muslim and wearing hijab and refused to take it off, she said thats what i am and who i am, like it or not!

He didnt like it, and she didnt find anyone to protect her and protect her rights in that free country!

Even the policeman shot the husband when he was protecting his wife !

 How free they claim to be !

They didnt even express their sorrow...!

NONE!

Ý wonder if she was Jewish, what would the German authority have done ?!

The amazing thing is, those people inhabited our countries for years, well actually not inhabited it, but took it over , sucked them and drained them got developed on our account , even they didnt pay us what they have done to us and caused us and when we go to their countries, to work and earn our livings, or to study as in this case and PAY for it and live among them, they also complains and want us to fill under their standards or else we wont be accepted like the people who have rights and transform to some other species i guess that is OK to attack or even killed !

How SÝCK !

Ýnna Lillahi Ve Ýna Ýlayhi Raceon !

 Here the pictures of her and her family seems that it was made by her friends or family and uploaded it on youtube

Stabbed 18 times???!!!  Where there no guards, police around? How on earth can someone be stabbed 18 times in a court of law?  This is of course, a huge disgrace, in fact, there are no words to express what this is.

May she rest in peace and may her little son grow to be a honor to her memory.

 Is this episode described at the beginning of  "Kurtlar Vadisi" movie?

Yes, I believe it was.  Odd, I can find hardly any information on this in the news here.  Wikipedia has no mention of it in the Raymond T. Odierno page. Maybe I didn´t look close enough?

He is now Commanding General, Multi-National Force—Iraq.

I also don´t really like Las Vegas. However, there isn´t another place like it. The hotels are absolutely amazing and the lights are overwhelming to see. I don´t like the ´what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas´ bit. But, I do say people should go for the experience and well...Hoover Dam is close by!

You are right, at least I can say I have seen it.  It´s amazing what they try to get people to gamble.  To each their own.

They do have nice entertainment there.  Cirque de Soleil is a regular there.

Las Vegas is on my list of places to see before I die

I guess it´s a matter of taste. I am not fond of Las Vegas....or at least....it would be on the bottom of my list of must sees.  If you find phoney, fake, superficial fun, you will love Las Vegas.

Regarding theHansom´s column:

It says "The title of document is : ‘Irtica Eylem Plani’ which can be translated as ´Action Plan for Sheria´ ...

Note his translation....even a cursory look up for the words doesn´t show Sheria in what was supposed to have been translated.

Irtica=-aý (political, social) reaction

Eylem=1. action. 2. operation.

Plani= planimetry, plano- concave.

I don´t know much about Turkish politics and I´ve got more than enough on my own plate to worry about and try to untangle....but looking at just this much causes me to question the credibility of what has been written.  The particular choice of words seems to me a strategic choice to elicit maximun reaction....and given the "West´s" obsession and misunderstanding of Sheria these days, rather melodramatic.....and to add to that, no comments allowed on this one.  Of course theH knew this would cause furor....It is rather rude, but within what is allowed.   Out of 19 columns, this is the only one restricting comments, is it any wonder it has caused extra reaction?
