You are absolutely right, alameda.  Muslims have been accused of doing horrible things....many people have.....my point is, we need to stop.  I am not saying we should stop posting articles about hate crimes, I am simply saying that we need to stop perpetuating the behavior that ensures the continuance of hate crimes.  When things are posted in such a way as to remove the objectiveness of a story then it compels other people to find an equally horrifying article supporting their view....and so on and so on....tempers flare and nothing constructive comes out of it.  When we do this, we are engaging in the same behaviors as the perpetrators of hate crime.  I think we can do better.  We should begin to discuss these issues as an offense to humanity.  The aim of terrorist and perpetrators of hate crimes is not just to kill people but to create more hate.  Let´s try not to help them with that.

You have many good points, Elisabeth....and you know I was thinking about Texas and some of the great Texas exports and have to admit...........I loved Ann Richards....in fact I´ve got a photo of her on a Harley at my desk.....then there is Jim Hightower....another great Texan!

Yes, it´s a delicate balance....and those who promote division like us to keep our eyes diverted. Flowers...but at the same time, isn´t it good to recognize and speak up against wrongs?

We actually have laws here in the US that say you can´t smoke within 50 feet of a public entrance.  So many places have a designated area on the side of a building where smoking is allowed.  Believe me, if you have asthma, walking thru a cloud of smoke before getting into a building can be a bit of a challenge, so I really appreciate these laws.  However, I do think that smokers should have a place where they can smoke freely without worrying about getting in trouble or putting someone into a full blown asthma attack.

The problem with smoking is the smoke doesn´t stay in one place, it disperses....I do think people are a little over sensitive about it though, but smokers could and should be more thoughtful about where and how they smoke.  It seems all those years of being subjected to smokers has taken it´s toll, not the nonsmokers are extracting revenge.

However, I notice now that I´m not smoking, even though the smokers are outside....and 20 feet from the door....it still smells up the rotunda of my office.  Also, when I take my walks around the building, walking through a cloud of smoke is not particularly pleasant.  People who smoke do not smell nice.

I miss the days of carefree smoking, but those days are gone. If they could make all the pubs in Ireland smoke free, what is next?  It´s just so hard to quite, but it´s worth it.  I hope I stopped before too much damage was done.

Well Elisabith, its hard to put head in sand and pretend everything is fine, as much as i would love to, because im too my heart is troubled from what we see, but i just cant, they are forced on us.

Ý dont know if you meant me by what you said or not

But when posting a news about hate crimes aginist muslims would that be using the site as a tool to prove" how they are being treated badly but when posting hate crimes muslims did that would be showing the real face of Ýslam ?!

We have many posts like that dont we ?

Ým just in the middle of discussion with german who think and let me quote

´´ think about 80 Percent of european people are thinking like me. Maybe more. BUT we stay peaceful, thats the big difference compared to your culture´´

And that is think Muslims have no place at Europe and they should go back home, and they are the source of all evil !

So you see, even i´d like to pretend that everything are fine, see the world through pink glasses im forced to think again and i dont have the luxury to do so .

Ý wish you say that out loud Elisabith maybe more people would understand that it can happen, we can live in peace together and stop exchange the hate that they already spreading !

Considering all the horrid things we have read here that Muslims have been accused of, this is really not very much at all.

When something is mentioned it´s given a "move along now, nothing to see here" treatment.

I´m sorry but I don´t believe in burquas, headscarves...Why should a woman be ashamed to hide her hair or body as someone said it was to prevent the stares of men.  If that´s the case, why don´t you shave your head bald and wear shirts that aren´t revealing.  I really don´t get it why Allah ordered this!  Did he specifically state what men should cover up or not reveal? No way

Try thinking of it more as a privilege rather than a burden.  By what right does anyone have to see a woman´s face?  I think of it more as a woman has a right to privacy.

Alameda - I´ve been Catholic for quite a few years and I was actively involved in Church but I´ve never heard anything about "out on Sunday", maybe it´s a regional saying that does not apply to Church´s policy. Selling pardons was abolished in 16th century and that´s it.

Daydreamer, you were born after Vatican II......so it´s highly improbable you have any experience with it....I have direct experience with the way things were....and that is something you can not refute.

If you could please provide a link that shows " you are out of Purgatory by Saturday"  Do you know what Purgatory is?   This doesn´t make sense unless you are dead.  Please don´t assume that I´m only familiar or educated with the Second Vatican Counsel.  I come from a long line of Catholic ancestors and have never heard of this.  If you could provide something for me to refer to....then educate me.

Yes teaschip, I very well know what Pergatory is..... (in the abstract of course)

No I can´t, it was something I witnessed....before there were links.  You can believe it or not.  I too have Catholic .....as well as Jewish, Muslim and other Ancestors.....I was given a broad education regarding religion....as well as choice.

Not sure what religion you are speaking of.  The only medallion I ever saw somebody receive based on recovery was at an AA meeting.  What religion or church are you speaking of?  I don´t understand "you are out on Saturday".

I was clear in this teaschip....Roman Catholic.....did you not read the first message?  I suspect your Catholic education is only as things relate to the Second Vatican Council.  I saw what I describe prior to the Second Vatican Council.  You are out on Saturday means you are out of Purgatory by Saturday.....That is in response to Daydreamer´s comment "hundreds of years ago"....in fact it is only a few decades ago, not hundreds of years ago.

My original statement:

"As far as the Roman Catholic church is concerned, I know they were selling things that were said to get you out of Pergatory by Saturday.....so said the nuns...and that was not hundreds of years ago, but more like a couple of  decades ago......(Catholic relatives)...."

First we had burqas to protect ourselves, and now we get martial arts  At least now we can have a hobby instead of being at tc But, how about common sense for all people?

Martial arts teach common sense...or at least should increase it.  What they do is increase our awarness to our surroundings.

My martial art of choice is Aikido

Alameda - did you mean indulgence? That is paying for your sins to be cancelled? If so, then it stopped at The Reformation, so after 16th century there was no longer a chance to buy yourself out of the flames of hell lol. For Christians (well, Catholics) to have your sin forgiven you must trully repent, confess your sin to a priest and fulful the penalty (usually saying a few prayers). Without meeting even one of these conditions (ie if you do not trully repent) your confession is not valid.

Well maybe that´s the way things went in Poland, but here things were very different....I saw and heard it myself..".....get this medallion and you are out on Saturday"........but what you say is true of course, if you really take care to read the doctrines....even if a priest "absolves" you.... it is not valid unless "real" repent....and I also believe some sort of "making ammends" is also required.  I think it´s called  "restitution"
