RIP Bariş. Where is the translation?

This song is one of my favorites. It is a Cem Karaca cover. Barış Akarsu (1979-2007) sings it.

Sad to have to say I agree with you regarding how easily manipulated the population is. Ever since Freud, the science of propaganda has gotten better. Keep the population busy and they won´t have time to notice. Shout loud enough over and over enough and  some will believe you, or are they just too tired and worn down to disagree?

Sadly Alpha, I think our countries are going thru similar experiences.  Our people are so polarized it is hard for the voice of reason to be heard.  This is just my opinion but I feel that our politicians have gotten so good at manipulating us that we don´t even see the real issues anymore.  In the US we are busy arguing about social issues that are already constitutionally guaranteed while other huge issues like the economy/war/poverty/education are barely addressed and if they are it is in the most superficial way.  I almost have to ask myself everyday...do they really think we are that dumb?  Sometimes my mind answers back...YES.  Sad, but true.  It is getting harder and harder to say otherwise.

I would question that, it certainly produces a change, not always what was anticipated. Case in point Iran...from the Shah to the Ayatollahs...not what many were hoping for.

Resistance always produces great new culture.

Interesting article, and somewhat frightening. However, I pretty much discount anything from anyone who is part of The American Enterprise Institute

As for the author, Michael Rubin, who is a regular writer for The Kurdistan Trubune, he hardly seems to have the best interests of Turkey at heart.

Here is how we look to some people from outside.

Turks must think seriously and decide if that is how they want to look ?

Lest we forget:

Declaration by Ataturk to the Turkish Youth

Turkish Youth!

Your first duty is forever to preserve and to defend the turkish

Independence and the Turkish Republic.

This is the very foundation of your existence and your future. This

foundation is your most precious treasure. In the future, too, there may be

malevolent people at home and abroad who will wish to deprive you of this

treasure. If some day you are compelled to defend your independence and your

republic, you must not tarry to weigh the possibilities and circumstances of

the situation before taking up your duty. These possibilities and

circumstances may turn out to be extremely unfavourable. The enemies

conspiring against your independence and your republic, may have behind them

a victory unprecedented in the annals of the world. It may be that, by

violence and ruse, all the fortresses of your beloved fatherland may be

captured, all its shipyards occupied, all its armies dispersed and every

part of the country invaded. And sadder and graver than all these

circumstances, those who hold power within the country may be in error,

misguided and may even be traitors. Furthermore, they may indentify their

personal interests with the political designs of the invaders. The country

may be impoverished, ruined and exhausted.

Youth of turkey´s future,

Even in such circumstances it is your duty to save the Turkish Independence

and Republic.

You will find the strength you need in your noble blood.

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

I don´t think it´s Agent orange, which is a defoliant and herbicide. It was used in places with a lot of plant cover or jungles to kill the cover. It is horrible and has long lasting effects, some being birth defects.

It appears what they are using is Pepper Spray, which is red and is used for crowd control. The link here said it is illegal in Turkey, perhaps that law has changed? Some Pepeper spary has been combined with Tear Gas, making it more effective.

They could also be using any of these riot control agents.

Quoting burakk

its a lower grade of it. not same as the one used in vietnam. there are pictures of the canisters and the containers.

agent orange aside, they are using outdates gas canisters, which is technically a chemical weapon.
