Sorry....force of habit I guess....but you don´t have to click on them.

I find it annoying when I get adds that are obviously designed for "me"....it lets me know they are building a profile...which I really do not like. BTW...your link hits it on the head exactly...so what will they do with all that information, what we look at where we go....and all....???? Interesting link you posted too....actually....it is like that all over now.

Quoting TheAenigma

I kind of agree with this (but wish you didn´t put in all those links!!!).......

Personally, I feel less and less "free" in the UK.

Basically, you have to join rat race, the capitalist dream, the materialistic society that we have become and the more you get, the more you want.

An interesting article from 2007 in the Times Online has a few things to say about

you are only as free, as you are free from desires.....

Fair enough Daydreamer.......it´s all your point of view.....I sort of think of it like "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose...."  Wink  It all depends on your perspective......if you were Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, Oscar Grant Mumia Abu-Jamal you may have a different perspective on things. .....

Quoting Daydreamer

.....Sure there are more than one meanings of freedom, nobody is fully free in the world. But I´d rather live in a world where I can speak my opinions than one that has no parking rules...

good to see the spirit of turkishclass.com still alive and well...i miss debates...at least we can debate without fear of being jailed for offending...´t-ness´....even public spaces like bars and restaurants my ´free´ friends lower their voices and whisper their opinions as if the secret police were watching our every move and recording our words...Yes, when you are raised to say pretty much whatever you wanted about our government and then you move to a place were it can land you in jail...believe me, you learn to appreciate what you had! i love my host country but have to admit i am not as free as i was before...but i do enjoy freely looking at the bosphorus...so there are the trade´offs...no youtube but great cups of cay...life is all about the trade-offs...

Maybe it´s getting to be time to come home? I think you actually have an illusions as to how free we actually are in the US... It is a trade off.

I love the freedoms in the US, but I am not under many delusions about my "freedoms". You have heard of Free Speech Zones, have you not? I am not free to choose to or not to eat GMO salmon, drink fluoride or in general have my body polluted with a multitude of chemicals.

I think the freedom you speak of is a thing of the past....if it ever was. Most of the world, Europeans and Turks in particular, have a much longer view of history....they have seen the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, Alexander, Napoleon....Hitler, Stalin...and many many others.

Americans, on the other hand, are incredibly naive. Have you ever heard the song The Gambler?  Discretion is always a good policy.

Ha ha ha ha.....well those were some interesting sites. BTW I knew a person with 3 nipples and I saw the extra one.  It is not that unusual, so it seems. The extra nipple was more like what one would see on a cat´s belly. Unless you were told it existed, there would be no indication it existed. In fact, the person with it had to point it out. If you didn´t know, you may just think it was a zit.

What does amaze me is the fact that Ann was able to get so prized a catch as a king with the extra digit. I thought royalty was concerned with breeding issues, and in general looked for physically "perfect" specimens......

Thanks Alameda, that was going to be my next question!  Will try to get a copy

My pleasure, My hat is off to British women. They have been some of the real movers and shakers in the world. Here´s a short list, excluding the Queens...

Jane Digby

Isabel Burton

Gertrude Bell.....I am amazed she is so little known and appreciated, a truly amazing woman. Did you know her guide was an Anatolian Armenian?

Freya Stark.............the trips she took???

..........all these women have their less admirable traits, but one can not ignore, or not respect their amazing lives, and the influence they had on world events. Freya had some interesting comments about Turkish men....Wink

I think you would find her facinating subject. I might suggest the Lesley Blanch version in The Wilder Shores of Love. I happened on it by seeing the of obituary of Lesley Blanch, who was another British woman who had an interesting life Wink. She was 103 at the time of her death in 2007. On reading about her I had to read her books. So far I´ve read The Wilder Shores of Love and Sabers of Paradise.

In the WSL she also writes about Isabell Burton, giving a new insite into the life and work of Sir Richard Burton. (they both spent time with Ms. Digby)...

Ouh!  Now I don´t know much about Jane Digby, but a quick wiki-scan tells me that she could make interesting reading!

Oh my....that is a little detail not well known. In those days 32 was just about a spinster, and it was only one hand with six fingers?

Yes, I heard it was in France where she learned to hone her wiles. She learned well, so it would appear. Although, in the bitter end, it was not a lot of help to her.

I must say British women are an interesting lot. I recently read about Jane Digby...

Definitely!  The Tudors are my favourite history topic and I love reading books about it - I also never realised just how old Anne Boleyn was when she married Henry - 32!!  She is always portrayed in films as young, beautiful and innocent, but she was far from it (and not particularly beautiful either) and had six fingers on one hand  However, she had a lot of flirty charm that she learned during her time the French court

.........Well history does show that Henry and Catherine of Aragon had a happy and successful marriage which lasted 24 years until his "mid life crisis" and desire for a son led him to another, short lived, 5 marriages!!   ...................

................Who needs soap operas when you have real history!

Wow....24 years! I didn´t realize it was that long. You are so right...history is much better.
