Yes, picking the correct terminology is not an easy task. I would say the proper term in this case would be Zionist, not Jewish, as all Jews are not particularly Zionist. Even then it gets complicated, what flavor of Zionism? Is it Christian Zionists.....what is Zionism? Rather, I think it´s political entities that masquerade in different forms depending on what is wanted at the time.

There, certainly are some very fanatic Zionists who seem to feel they have license to do just about anything.  Things like this statement by

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef says in Saturday sermon that ´Goyim have no place in the world - only to serve the People of Israel´; ADL chief calls Yosef´s words ´hateful´ and ´divisive´.

........and the platform of the Likud party is not exactly friendly to Muslims...Then let´s admit, those non Jewish Israelis don´t exactly wield much power.

Read the Likud party platform.... below is a part of it...(The Likud party now being the party in power.)

The Palestinians
Declaration of a State

A unilateral Palestinian declaration of the establishment of a Palestinian state will constitute a fundamental and substantive violation of the agreements with the State of Israel and the scuttling of the Oslo and Wye accords. The government will adopt immediate stringent measures in the event of such a declaration.

Settlements

The Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are the realization of Zionist values. Settlement of the land is a clear expression of the unassailable right of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel and constitutes an important asset in the defense of the vital interests of the State of Israel. The Likud will continue to strengthen and develop these communities and will prevent their uprooting.

Then I have to protest your definition of Jewish as a religion. It seems it has been redefined in the last century as something else....if your mother´s mother´s mother´s ...on and on was Jewish...you are too. Even if you are an atheist....go figure??? I wonder what Moses would say? I have met more than a few of those atheist Jews????

There are other Jewish groups, like the Refusniks, Gush Shalom and others  who do not support those policies, they are in the minority now.

Dear Vineyards... why is it so hard to understand that Jewish and Isreali is not the same? One is a religion, the other is a nationality. Turkish and Muslim is not the same either. There are enough non-Muslim Turks, and there are enough non-Turkish Muslims. There are also non-Jewish Isreali´s. It´s not about being pc, it´s just about saying what you actually mean. If you feel "Jewish involvement" you mean that my dear old grand-aunt is also somehow involved in this.

I love that song, but much prefer this version by Nina Simon...

in looking up who wrote the song, I found this....interesting it was written by

Chip Taylor (born March 21, 1944 in Yonkers, New York) is the stage name used by American songwriter James Wesley Voight, who is noted for writing and composing the songs "Angel of the Morning" and "Wild Thing." Taylor´s brothers are the actor Jonathan "Jon" Voight and the geologist Barry Voight. He is the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.

On the contrary, I simply made an observation, reported what I saw and my analysis of it.

Regarding our "debates"...there are forum rules. I have no problem as long as the people follow the rules.

If you want to communicate, you do it one way, if you only want to be heard, you do it another. What do you want?

One thing I never understood with Alameda or Bydand is that they always complain, no matter what.

I understand people jump on one another during the debates. It happens even among the politicians who are expected to be the examples.

I personally attacked Canli many times and I knew why. She seemed to be such a bitch to me despite her sweetness or gentleness.

I have to add one more thing: everyone should know that when you enter the debate or discussion you will get soon or later slapped on both cheecks. If you consider yourself a princess and everyone should agree with you, then go back to your palace, put your crown on, look at the mirror and enjoy your princessness.

She was deeply hurt by some people with their mean comments. I have not heard anything from her for a long time either. I really loved talking with her.

Canli is a lady who would not allow herself to be drug through the mud. Some people see debating as a sport, I think she was only interested in serious conversation.

Oh, I hope nothing has happened to her. Does anyone know if she´s ok?

I probably should have asked this in a different way...  Can anyone who has lived in Turkey or has grown up elsewhere but considers themselves Turkish give me their perspective on the impact or direction of Turkey as it historically pertains to the decline of the Ottoman Empire and/or Napoleonic/French relations/greed?  I´m really interested in a Turkish opinion, or several, or that matter.  I know this deviates from linguistic discussion, but I don´t know how else to isolate modern Turkish perspective or consensus on an area of Turkish history.  Thank you your help, everyone.

I´m not Turkish, but I have been very interested in this part of history, and the impact of the Ottoman Empire, and it´s decline on the ME. From what I have learned, it would seem Napoleon exposed weakness in the Ottoman defenses, thus opened the door for the exploitation of those weakness that culminated with the end of the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th Century.

The Ottomans made an alliance with the British, and together they expelled the French. That alliance, however, gave Britain insight into exploitable weaknesses, which exploit they did.

It is interesting that at this time, in order to gain support from the Jews, Napoleon wrote his famous Letter to the Jews where he proclaimed a Jewish state in Ottoman Syria.

Don´t Bulgar Turks count?

The Bulgars (also Bolgars, Bulghars, or Proto-Bulgarians) were a people who lived in Eastern Europe during the Early Middle Ages. Their ethnicity is uncertain but most scholars posit that they were a Turkic people with some Iranian elements that migrated to Europe from Central Asia in 4th century. In the 7th century they established two states on the Pontic-Caspian steppe: Great Bulgaria, which spanned between the Caspian Sea and Black Sea, and Volga Bulgaria on the territory that is now part of the Russian Republics of Tatarstan and Chuvashia. Likewise, they imposed themselves in the Balkans as the elite ruling class of the Danube Bulgar Khanate. In each of these regions they were gradually assimilated over a period of centuries by the local ethnic groups, giving rise to several modern peoples claiming descent from them: Volga Tatars (see Bulgarism) and Chuvash, Balkars and Bulgarians.
