Thread: Finding a job in Turkey

I am considering moving to Turkey probably around the Istanbul area. Does anyone know how easy it would be for me to get a fairly decent job there? I do not have a university degree but I do have very good a-levels. I would like to teach english as a foreign language but hear that you need a TEFL certificate to do this? Also, how would I go about finding something in Istanbul? I do speak reasonable Turkish but don't know if it would be good enough to find everything out by myself!!

I changed some English pound sterlings into YTL the other day and the current rate is 2.55 YTL to £1
Apparently in Turkey (istanbul) at the moment it is 3 YTL to £1
think i'll be changing the rest of mine over there

i want to take some turkish music back with me but i dont know much about the music apart from what i hear on the radio. ideally i wanted a compilation of different artists but they did not have anything. then i heard a cd they were playing and they told me it was ebru yasar. so i bought it to see if i liked it. a mixture of slow and fast songs but i need to listen to it more before i can say if it is good or not.
i will buy a tarkan cd but which one?

I think the best Tarkan CD is probably Karma
However, ölürüm sana, and Dudu are also really good albums
I would say go for those they are my favourites

Many thanks

Neden bana arıyorsun? Ben başka insanla nişanlıyım ve çok mutluyum. Lütfen bana daha arama.

Quoting Deli_kizin:

Can somebody please check if I made questions correctly? The book doesn't have an answer-model so that's why I'm asking here.

The following excersises all have to do with the possesive suffixes, of which I never took the time to study so that I'm strugglin with 'em now. Today I decided to make a few excersises and see how far I'd get. Thank you so much in advance.

Chapter 5

» Make sentences of the following words:

01. sen - para - yok
Senin paran yok (you don't have money)

02. o - ayakkabı - yok
Onun ayakabısı yok (he doesn't have shoes)

03. biz - okul - var
Bizim okulumuz var (we have school)

04. siz - gözlük - var
Sizin gözlüğünüz var (you have glasses)

05. onlar - zaman - var
Onların zamanı / zamanları var (they have time)

06. ben - kardeş - var
Benim kardeşim var (I got siblings)

07. siz - şehir - hava limanı - var
Sizin şehirinizde hava limanı var (there is an airport in your city)

08. Siz - ev - şehir
Sizin eviniz şehirde (your house is in the city)

09. o - öğretmen - Amsterdam - gitmek
Onun öğretmeni Amsterdam'a gitti (his teacher went to Amsterdam)

10. ben - anne - dün - ev
Benim annem dün evdeydi (my mother was at home yesterday)

11. biz - okul - dün - yok
Bizim okulumuz dün yoktu (we didn't have school yesterday)

12. onlar - sözlük - var
Onların sözlüğü / sözlükleri var (they have a dictionary)

As far as I can see all of your possessives are prefectly correct.

(no. 2 should be onun ayakkabısı yok but that is a minor spelling mistake and probably a typing error not grammar mistake!)

Quoting anna06:

if i did not get in touch with you would you even bother getting in touch with me.

are you ashamed of me.

can i ask you do you want to be with me for a life time are just for a few weeks here and there.

realy i am not understanding what i mean to you.

thank you to anybody who can help.

Eğer ben seninle temasa geçmezseydim, sen benimle temasa geçmeyi bile zahmet eder misin?

Beni utanıyor musun?

Sana sadece sorabilir miyim, benimle ömür mü olmak istersin, sadece bir kaç hafta mı ara sıra olmak istersin benimle?

Nasıl önemliyim sana gerçekten anlamıyorum.

(I wasn't too sure on the last line but it gets the same message accross, I wrote it as 'I don't really understand how important I am to you' hope that's ok!)

Birşey sorabilir miyim, problem var mı? Ben birşey fena yaptım mı? Çünkü sen asla mesajlar atmıyorsun şimdi, bile bilgisayarına gelmiyorsun, ve telefonda konuşerken şimdi sen konuşmak istememişsin. Bana birşey söylemek ister misin?

Quoting goldie:

i will be very greatful if somebody help me in translation of that poem.
Thank u in advance.

You are my air
The sun in my day
The moon in my night
The spring in my step
You are my everything.

You are the stars in the sky
The birds in the trees
The shimmer, the sparkle, the shine.

Without the light you put into my life
I would be nothing
A single leaf on the ground in autumn,
Lost, forgotten, alone.

Before i knew you,
I was nothing.
Now I am everything,
With you at my side,
I am invincible!

Feel the same my baby,
You are loved so much,
I love you now and forever
You are my darling, my baby, my love
You are my everything
I love you so much.

Sen benim havamsın
Gündüzümdeki güneşsin
Gecemdeki aysın
Admımdaki sıçrayışsın
Sen benim herşeyimsin.

Sen gökyüzündeki yıldızlarsın,
Ağaçlardaki kuşlarsın,
Titrek ışıksın, parlayışsın, parlaklıksın.

ışıksız, hayadıma koyduğunu
Ben hiçbirşey olmam
Tek yaprak toprakta sonbaharda olurum,
Kayıp, unuttu, yalnız.

Seni tanıdığımdan önce,
Hiçbirşey olmadım.
şimdi herşeyim,
Seninle yanımda,
Ben yenilmezim.

Aynı hisset bebeğim,
Seni çok seviyorum,
Seni şimdi ve ebediyen seviyorum
Sen benim canımsın, benim bebeğimsin, benim aşkımsın
Sen benim herşeyimsin,
Seni çok seviyorum.

Quoting Sea Breeze:

I have spoke to vicky. Yes i will have to go to xxxxx to renew my tourist visa, every three months.

I will have to do this on my own though and possibly stay overnight if i cannot get a ferry to and from xxxx on the same day.

I say do it on my own, as you told me you cant go over to xxxx as you do not have the right visa?

But unfortunately, i will not be able to do anything about your visa.

So every three months i will need to go over to turkey to renew my tourist visa.

Once i start work and my boss has processed all the papers for my work permit, i will have to go again !

It all sounds like hard work, and i am not looking forward to it.

I dont want to have to go every 3 months - but it looks like i have no choice. I'm really upset about it, but i will have to do it.

Many thanks in advance to the wonderful person who can do this for me !

Sorry if you find any mistakes but I think most of it is right I have done my best hope it helps!

Ki can also be added to the end of a sentence to mean the same as ! (an exclamation)
As Turkish word order is more flexible than English maybe it is just emphasising that??

If you download the program limewire (www.limewire.com) then you can free downloads for songs, films, programs etc I'm sure you would find your song there just type in the artist and name. Or if you like I could always send it to you if you still haven't found it.
