GÖZLERİMİZ
Nazım Hikmet (1902-1963)

Gözlerimiz şeffaf temiz damlalardır.
Her damlada demire can veren dehamızın
bir küçücük zerresi vardır..
Şeffaf temiz damlalarıyla gözlerimiz
bir umman içinde o kadar birleşti ki,
kaynıyan suda buzu nasıl eritirsiniz,
işte biz de birbirimizde öyle kaybolduk.

Yükseldi gözlerimizin şaheseri
demire can veren dehayı bulduk.

OUR EYES

Our eyes are transparent clear drops.
In their every drop lies our genius
which has given life to cold iron...
Our eyes with their transparent clear drops
have joined in an ocean in such a thorough manner,
we have gotten lost in one another;
just as if you could melt ice in boiling water.

Our eyes’ masterpiece has risen
and we found the genius that gave life to cold iron.
If our eyes with their transparent clear drops
had not joined inside an ocean,
and had their every drop scattered far away from each other,
we would not have been able to turn steel mountains,
by combining dynamos and turbines
as if they were hollow and unripened watermellons...
And we would not have ben able to put out the night’s fire burning our eyes
like a match whose wick has run out.
