Hi Everyone

I am finally able to go and stay with my fiance in Turkey for 9 months.

I am financially able to support myself during my time there and I saw no reason to apply for a longer Visa as I will be back regularly to see my family.

However, I am now so confused.

I travelled on 22nd December to Turkey for two weeks. I am flying back on 28th February to stay for 3 months. Will they issue me with a new 90 day VISA at the airport on 28th February, as I will still be in my last 90 day VISA???? Or will they make me leave at the end of March when my December VISA will expire??

Please please help me I'm so confused and don't want to get into any trouble while i'm there!!!!

Thanks for all your help

once your 3 onth visa is up you will have to return home before the last day of your visa date otherwise you will have an immigration record.
As you are planning on staying for 9 months then you will have to apply for a different visa other than the 3 month visitors.
I will find out which visa you will need

I don't know in which part of Turkey you are staying, but if its close to the Greek border I'd advice you to make a trip to Greece in the last week of each 3 months. That way
your tourist visa will be renewed all the time. Its not really allowed I belıeve, but I know someone who visits the Greek island Chios every three months and gets his visa renewed. However he is, like me, a citizen of EU. This could not work for US citizens, you should try to work this out.

Be sure to find these things out in time and arrange them in advance, otherwise you might get unwanted surprizes once in Turkey, and thats the last thing you need when you are looking forward to 9 months with your fiancee.

You dont have to return home. All you need to do is leave Turkey. A bus to Bulgaria is the cheapest way to do this (if you are in western Turkey). There is also a bus to Greece but its more expensive.

Deli, this works for US citizens also. You only have to leave Turkey and re-enter. You simply get a new 90 day turist visa.
We had this discussion earlier, but if there is a turkish consulate in your home country, you can get a 5 year turist visa. Much cheaper than getting many 90 day visa's in that time period.

you can either apply for a residency visa which is for 12 months which i have been told is about 500 lira

or you can pop out the country for a day nd then re enter on another 3 month visa but that only gives you 6 months

Hello Everyone

Thanks for your replys.

I didn't really word my question properly.

What I really want to know is, because I travelled on 22nd December, can I get a new VISA on 28th February??? or will they make me enter the country again on my 22nd December VISA (which will only have about 20 days left on it).

I have been home in UK and out of Turkey since January 4th. If I can get a new 90 days on 28th February, there is no issues for me as I am already booked to come home in May. But if they don't give me a new VISA on 28th Feb then I will have to leave at end of March.

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks again everyone.

For visa renewal I used to take the 'motorlu' train from Sirkici to Edirne, crossing the famous Uzun Köprü on the way. I would then hire a 'payton' to take me to the border. I could pay the driver to wait for me while I walked across the border to Greece; have a glass of tea in the small Greek border town, walk back across the border to Turkey where, an hour or so later, he would be waiting faithfully to take me back to Edirne. Then I'd take the 'motorlu' back to Istanbul. A most pleasurable trip every time!
Can one still hire a payton these days?
