Speaking Turkish

My Turkish is very elementary however I need to speak with someone regularly via Skype to correct my accent and pronunciation. My accent is very strong and not British and I have great difficulty in getting the forward and back vowels to sound correct. Even using guides which say The A is like father is difficult as in my homeland we pronounce it differenty from the English websites advising this. Discussions would need to be by Skype as MSM voice is not supported by the internet providers in my country.

Anyone interested in doing this?

Hi Kay,
I really want to help you to practice Turkish but speaking via internet is not completely safe, you know, spams, trojans and viruses like such programmes. So I'm sorry I can't help you directly.
However,ıf you have difficulties to pronounce some voices, the first thing that comes into my mind is that you can watch Turkish televisions via internet. Especially news are good to improve pronunciation.
I 've searched some adresses that help you to watch tv :
www.izle.tv
www.tv-izle.com

I recommend you especially the channels TRT(1-2-3-etc);Kanal B; NTV;CNN TURK

I hope this would help you.

You can use skype as long as you don't go into any thing which shouldn't be said/published on the web.. right? As long as you talk about the weather that can't do much harm

Thanks for the advice. I have managed to find a lady in the States who wishes to improve her English in exchange for Turkish lessons so its working well.

We structure our lessons for half an hour twice a week and talk about family etc, and use MSM to send words that we are both having difficulty pronouncing which allows us to read the word slowly then say it.

Coming on in leaps and bounds -but still very much at a childs level -

The thought too, fills me with glee, but then it is a very English topic on this rather dull gloomy February day!
