LAURA,
If there are no Turkish Groceries around, try Lebanese, Bulgarian, Greek or Turkish Cypriot shops....The name is "FETA CHEESE"

Isn't London peppered with those shops then?
They even sell feta in regular supermarkets overhere (Belgium). Although I would not advise you to buy it there if you're looking for the real stuff because a lot of what they sell in supermarkets is made of cow's milk. And feta is made of sheep's milk if I remember correctly.

I'd say there are plenty of Turkish stores all over London, I just don't know where they are (I'm sure if I looked, I'd find them).
I'll have to go on an exploration this weekend!
Thanks guys!

Feta of cow's milk is a 'light cheese' which is more easily appreciated by the uninitiated.
Feta of sheep or goat milk is a 'strong cheese' with its own pronounced aroma and taste: sought after by the experts.
Before you buy any FETA, ask for a small piece to taste, from each available kind...See which one you can qualify for..

Try this one:
http://local.google.co.uk/local?hl=en&q=turkish+market+&near=bethnal+green&btnG=Search
Change the location to yours.
BTW, there is no need to search for Greek shops or whatever since most small shops in London belong to Turks anyway. There are also bigger Turkish shops called Turkish Food Center. These are average sized supermarkets. Anywhere in London if you go to any small shop it is likely to belong to a Turk.
I would also suggest örme peynir (knitted cheese).

One thing which makes me angry in London is that in big supermarkets yogurt, olive oil, some cheese and other things are advertised as Greek Style. I have seen this in Sainsburys.

Thanks AlphaF, according to your explanation I can count myself amongst the experts!

I actually took up the "Greek Style" issue some years ago with M&S as I too was angry. They said their reason for calling their products as such was because the supplier/manufacturer they used was Greek even though the origins of the product might well be Turkey. Very frustrating.
