I went to Turkey for 10 days only in the late May and early june this year...
i've found myself fell in love with he country~
i've visited Istanbul, Cappadocia, Kusadasi, Antalya, Angora, Pamukkale...they were so beautiful, having excellent scenery, great culture and nice people!!
before i've been there, i just expected that Turkey should be a developing poor country with hidden background cos i hadn't had any information about the country at that moment. but, after getting around Turkey, i really started loving it, cos it's so different from my hometown (Hong Kong). I like everything about Turkey, especially the people there, they are soooooo friendly~
and i thank god that i've found my love in Cappadocia, hope we can be together very soon!!

It was on May 2003 when i came to Turkey for the first time. My excuse for this trip was a short holiday with my best friend. The real purpose was to meet somebody i had been talking with, for months, through internet.

I was adviced, from friends and relatives who had been there before, not to wear a mini skirt, not to wear tight jeans, not to smile and talk to strangers and (lol) to always wrap a jacket around my weist while walking in Istanbul's streets! Because, they said, turkish men find it easy to lay their hands on women's b*tts while walking Also, to keep my money safe at the hotel, not on me, to hold my bag tight and to never buy anything without bargaining first. Most of all, those who had never been in turkey, were worried about my greek nationality and how turks would behave to me cause of this.

What i really found there was polite people, friendly, who never embarassed me in any way, no matter if i was walking alone in the streets or not, with or without a jacket around my weist I realized that they were being even more friendly to me, as soon as i was mentioning i was greek, especially when saying i was from Selanik (Salonica,Ataturk's motherland). Nobody ever tried to steal my bag and they even gave it to me when i left it in a coffee shop!

The people were amazing and so was Istanbul. And i have to say the same about every other place i ve ever been in turkey, except from kusadasi. (I have to admit that there, shop owners at least, were less innocent with tourists)

The only good piece of advice my friends had given me, was about bargaining. Yes i did it, and yes i had fun with it though its not my style at all.

Since then, Turkey has become my favorite destination. And every time i pass the borders to enter this amazing country, i feel like coming home...

HEHEHE... iv had all that too sophie jnm.. but the only time i ever wrapped a jacket around my waist was went i threw up on the gondola ride after being on a few other wild things... and i was well..err.. wearing white jeans.. when i kind of well puked on them... that wasnt good.. so i was obligated to tie the jacket round me hihi and no.. no passing guys slapped my ass that night.. as u can imagine hehe...

My first time in Turkey was last January. It was cold and wet - but the warmth of the people more than made up for it! I have been back 3 times and hope to visit again in the summer next year - and catch up with friends! I too had heard all sorts of "stories" about Turkish people and how they viewed Europeans - I found it all to be rubbish as everyone I met was lovely - perhaps it depends on the European!!?? lol

first time i went was this year. i work in a travel agents buying and selling the money. and the stories iheard about how beautiful turkey was and how nice the ppl were there. so just before my op i booked to go to gumbet (wasnt sure wether i would deff be going or not dependent on my op)
soit came to the holiday and i thought i dotn wanna go was feelignlow at the time.
same as sophie i had been warned about holding on to ya money and not to get involved with any one. me saying ya got no chance i hate men at present.
feel in love with the country whilst i was there. found a lovley man that i am very happy with and all the ppl at the hotel looked after my kids if i wanted to go out with a friend i met on the plane. and i even walked the streets on my own in the evening once and i had no problem
best holiday ever
only scarey bit was when we were onthe beach at the end of season and the beach was full off wolves my b/f dragged me back to hotel as even though they are beautiful they could of eaten us
so i came back with a new tan a new outlookk on life and oh yer a new man hehehehe
