merhaba, all
I was watching this Turkish tv show and I noticed that the teacher in the show would call one of his students with a "cım" at the end of the student's name. Example: "Tarıkcım". Tarık is the child's name. What does this mean? Is it a form of affection? Also the student would call his teacher "öğretmenIm". I know that öğretmen means teacher, but why does the student call him this way?
Can I get some help with this, please? Thanks everyone!

In Turkey students call their teachers or lecturers as "öğretmenim" or "hocam", that is "my teacher" or "my lecturer". In English it seems a bit strange, because in English it is "Sir", "Mr/Mrs XXX" etc. Showing respect is different country by country

In primary school first 5 years they call "öğretmenim"
Rest of their education(in high school, university etc.) they call "hocam"

wow, thanks everyone for your posts.
They were very helpful.
So, you wouldn't call your professor öğretmenIm?
You would call them hocam instead? How do the students in Turkey call their professors?
