How to escape from a car that's fallen into the Bosporus?

A considerate Istanbul newspaper once published a small manual to educate people about what to do when they're so unfortunate to drive into the Bosporus:

HOW TO ESCAPE FROM A CAR THAT’S FALLEN INTO THE BOSPHORUS

1. Don’t panic. Close your window and wait for your car to fill with water. Make sure the doors are unlocked. Also ensure that all passengers stay very still.
2. If the car continues to sink into the depths of the Bosphorus, pull up your hand brake.
3. Just as your car has almost filled with water, take one final breath of the last layer of air between the water and the car roof, slowly open the doors, and, without panicking, get out of the car

(From Orhan Pamuk’s "Istanbul")

Takes a stoic person to do that I think..

Please tell me, how does a car "fall" into the Bosphorus lol I was told by a native of Istanbul that many people drive into the Bosphorus or the Marmara Sea, usually they are drunk, or their relationship has broken down and they are trying to commit suicide.

And as someone who lived next to a river, and is surrounded by a river system, I can say that the chances of getting out alive are very slim, even if you do follow the rules to the letter

Yeah, maybe you don't know but there is another world under the Bosphorus in which non-living things live. Cars, chairs, umbrellas, dentures, jeans, and so on. lol There is even a documentary film about that world of non-living things living under the Bosphorus. If you can find, watch it!

Also, the Bosporus is so deep (more than 100m at some points if I remember correctly) and has treacherous currents...
