UNDEGRADUATE PROGRAMMES:

If you want to start an undergraduate exam you MUST take the YÖS exam (Yabancı uyruklu Öğrenci sınavı . This exam is taken once a year, in the month of april, and is about mathematics and general IQ. There is also a Turkish language test, in which you can obtain A B C level. To start immediately you need to obtain A, or when you have B or C you need the diploma from a Turkish course. Some programmes where English is the language of tuition, also take B and C level students, if they accept to take extra Turkish lessons throughout the year.

I dont know where you come from and which highschool-diploma you have, some universiteis also accept English GCSE with A levels or American SATs with certain points, the German arbitur sometimes too.. You have to ask the university, but getting information is hard, especially if you are abroad.

Placement is decided on points in the exam: for a language study, approximately 50-60 points is enough, for architecture 60-70, for medicines, 80. Each university is allowed to set up its own conditions, but mostly YÖS is a requirement.

--If not undergraduate programme:

- This is very 'university-bound'. If you already studied one or more years at a unşviersity in your own country and want to continue this study in Turkey, you must apply with a 'lesson programme' of the years you passed and your result. If the lessons have been nearly the same, you can be accepted to the next year. Sometimes university requires also passing in your homecountry with certain points.
For example: İf 'person A' studies the first year of Medicines in his own country and passes all exams with at least 70%, this person is accepted in the second year of Dokuz Eylül University's medical faculty.
But this really depends from university to university.

- If you want to do a master or a research in Turkey, you need to personally contact the university yourself. I advice you to go on a holiday and take a Turkish friends who speaks English with you. Usually its pretty hard to find the right information.. so..

Be careful with your time, sometimes the application-time for foreing students is only in between certain dates, of only 2 weeks.

I wish you good luck!

Some other things you will need for application, after you took YÖS exam or have proof of another exam, diploma that is valuable too:

- Some copies of your passport
- Fotographs taken in the last 6 months without coloured glasses or something on your head, sometimes they even ask like 10 photos or more.
- A student-visa for Turkey. This may be hard to obtain, but the results of YÖS-exam (taken in april, results in june) usually give this visa till september. Once you are accepted you can extend it with that proof.
- An English and Turkish (depends on uni) translation of highschool diploma.
- Your official highschool diploma or a certified copy, translated and evaluated by the Turkish ministry of education (Im not sure on this one, but sure that it is done by an institute in Ankara). Or a diploma of a bachelor if you wont want to enroll undergraduate but higher.

----

I know all these because I took YÖS exam this year to enroll an undergraduate programme, and in the process of finding information I also found other info. I decided to do the first year of a bachelor in Holland (for educational and financial reasons) and then maybe turn back next year. This is why I also know about continuing a started study in Turkey.

Yes. Many universities have this, and if you go there after taking YÖS exam, usually the government will pay for the course.

A level: Student has enough knowledge of Turkish language to be able to enter the Turkish university. No course required.

B level: Student hasnt got enough knowledge, but knowledge can be brought to satisfying level in a short time. For example, you could take a 2 month intensive course and with that diploma you could be allowed too. This will save you a year. If you cant make this, you will be sent to course as Janissary said.

C level: Student has no knowledge of Turkish Language and therefore must take a language course. Student will be given one year of permission and mathematics/İQ results will still be valid the next year.

Some programmes where the lessons are in English, take B or even C students, if they accept to take turkish classes throughout the year.

---

This ABC level is only for YÖS exam. Sometimes another language exam is asked (for students who apply with something different than YÖS results). I forgot the name.. something like TCS, which is also held in Turkey.

Anne, I just checked your profile and saw you are from Romania. You should give some more information about what you want.. Which department and which year do you want to go?
