Has anyone read this book by Patrick Balfour Kinross? I am considering buying it, it has quite good reviews but thought I would mention it on the boards...I'm sure someone here will have a first hand review of it.

Hi

It is a big thick read, was written in the 1950s or 1960s, and describes the years 1300 to 1900.

If you are really interested in the Ottomans, you may prefer Osmans Dream by Caroline Finkel which is more modern (2006) and a more interesting read.

But: unless you want to research Ottoman Turkey, a more general history book, or one that deals with more modern history could be more useful.
