12 NOON – 7 PM ON SATURDAY THE 14TH AND SUNDAY THE 15TH JULY 2007

For the fourth consecutive year running and as part of the Coin Street Festival we bring the ever more popular Turkish Fest to London's South Bank on Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 July. It's time to enjoy all things Turkish once again with traditional Turkish entertainment, performances, live acts and the famous riverside Bazaar selling the best of Turkish cuisine and crafts.

The music line up showcases a mix of traditional and contemporary sounds including folk and pop. On the main stage will be performances by Istanbul State Folk Music Group, Eylem , Bertug Cemil playing contemporary Turkish pop music and Pinar & Gulfem piano vocal duo performing classical pieces, all from Istanbul. Also specialising
in Turkish folk / pop are London-based performers Djanan Turan, Akustica, Sudden Exit and Asli's Wonderland (described as very resourceful singers-songwriters and great, warm performers). A number of DJ's will also be joining us to entertain while you rest and browse round the bazaar in between program performances.

Be enthralled by performances of traditional belly dance by Hulya Baysan , Vanessa & Vashti and learn how to perfect your belly dancing skills by taking part in the belly dancing workshops by Elif & Co. and Aylin's students.

For the first time Whirling Dervishes are joining us this year to celebrate the Mawlana year and award winner Dr.F.Kucuk youth and junior Folklore Groups .

Art Fair

Ebru, Photographs, hand crafts etc. with a collection of paintings and fine art will join us to exhibit their work, so Art lovers come prepared as most will be on sale.

Bazaar

The South Bank riverside walkway is transformed into a Turkish Bazaar with stalls serving the best of Turkish food, drink, spices, music and crafts. The bazaar will include food stands with famous Turkish dishes, along side craft stands displaying a range of carpets, rugs, hand painted plates and more.

Event Location: Bernie Spain Gardens, Upper Ground, South Bank, London SE1

(located on the riverside walkway between the Royal National Theatre and Tate Modern)

Nearest Train/Tube: Waterloo, Blackfriars or Southwark

Anyone in the London area thinking of going to this on either Saturday or Sunday?

Just got back from the festival. One to go to if you can get to it. Amazing performances on the stage by local Turks and from Turkey. Music from traditional to pop and rock. No Whirling performance today, may be tomorrow. But an interesting place to reminisce the sights, sounds and smells of Turkiye.
