HOTELS IN TURKEY JUNE-JULY 2007

Here is a list of the hotels I used during my trip of 6 weeks throughout Turkey. All prices are for a single room unless otherwise stated. A Y at the end of the description means I would stay again, an N is a definite no-no.

AFYON – Çakmak Marble Hotel / 70 YTL: Four star hotel with great restaurant. Spacious room, spotless bathroom with bathtub, minibar, television (BBC and CNN), elevator, excellent breakfast, free use of hammam, sauna and swimming pool for guests, massage available (paid!). Some English is spoken and one staff member speaks excellent German. Very helpful. Y

AMASYA – Harşena Otel / 70 YTL: Ottoman house so you pay more for the idea than for service, room not too clean, bathroom was clean, television (no English channels), no air-conditioning (very needed!), court yard for breakfast, breakfast ok, cold shower, staff speak no English and were not too friendly. N

BIRECIK – Mırkelam Motel / 45 YTL double room: Clean room and bathroom, no breakfast included but next door is a restaurant, swimming pool for 3 YTL, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, no English is spoken but very helpful. Y

BURSA – Otel Çesmeli / 60 YTL: Spacious room with clean bathroom, air-conditioning, television (no English Channels), elevator, very good breakfast, only female staff which makes it a good choice for solo woman travelling, credit card not possible. Staff speaks reasonable English and is very helpful. Y

ELAZIР– Hotel The Marathon / 60 YTL: Luxury hotel with clean and large room, large lobby, separate bar, restaurant at the top floor with terrace, hammam with a good masseur (male), separate sauna (paid!), staff speak limited English, good service, very friendly, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, elevator, very good breakfast, elevator. Y

EMET – Atılım Motel / 27,50 YTL: Little 2-person house, clean, bathroom, cooking facilities, no television or air-conditioning, private covered terrace, breakfast not included. Price per house, not per person. No English is spoken but staff is very helpful. Y

ERZURUM – Hotel Dilaver / 50 YTL: Spacious room with television (no English channels), no air-conditioning, elevator, clean bathroom with bathroom, average breakfast, large lobby, staff speak only a few words English. Y

ESKIŞEHIR – Termal Otel Sultan / 35 YTL: Little room with reasonable clean bathroom with bathtub, television (no English channels), elevator, breakfast so-so. A little English is spoken. N

GAZIANTEP – Otel Güllüoğlü / 50 YTL double room: Clean room and bathroom, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, elevator, next to the hotel is a pastane, staff speak limited English, average breakfast. Y

ISTANBUL – Hotel Aygun Plaza in Taksim / 48 € prepaid and 75 € arriving at hotel: Luxurious hotel, spacious room with even so spacious and spotless bathroom, television (3 English channels), central air-conditioning, minibar, elevator, excellent breakfast, hammam, sauna and massage available (paid!), staff speaks excellent English and is very helpful. Y

KAHRAMANMARAŞ â€“ Otel Belli / 70 YTL double room: Clean room and bathroom, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, elevator, average breakfast, staff speak no English, next to the hotel is a great pastane. Y

KARADUT – Karadut Pansiyon / ? – price was included in a tour: Clean room and bathroom, air-conditioning, television (no English channels), average breakfast, hardly any English is spoken. N

KARS – Hotel Güngölen / 30 YTL: spacious room with television (no English channels), bathroom ok, large lobby, breakfast average, watch your head if you are taller than 1,75 when going up and down the stairs – the concrete does not give in!, staff speak reasonable English but was not friendly. N

KASTAMONU – Hotel Osman Sarayı / 45 YTL: Former city hall (where as they claim Ataturk has slept once), beautiful high lobby and room, clean bathroom ‘hidden’ in wooden closet, perfect shower, television (no English channels), no air-conditioning, average breakfast, staff speak no English but is helpful. Y

KAYSERI – Otel Terminal / 50 YTL double room: Simple hotel next to the otogar (bus station), clean, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, average breakfast. Y

KEMALIYE – Hotel Bozkurt / 30 YTL: Clean room and bathroom, no television, no air-conditioning (very needed!), average breakfast, no English is spoken, but the area is marvellous! Y

KÜTAHYA – Otel Yeni Kösk 2 / 25 YTL: Simple room with television (no English channels), no air-conditioning (very needed!), spacious but grubby looking bathroom, separate toilet, breakfast awful (even the cucumber was missing), no English is spoken. N

N

ORDU – Belde Otel / 55 YTL: Spacious, bright room with same bathroom, elevator, balcony with sea view, big swimming pool (if you ask you can use it also after closing time in the evening), some staff members speak English, elevator, excellent breakfast, very helpful, television (no English channels except for a porn one…). The hotel was under construction but has normally also a hammam, sauna, barber, gift shop, disco and patisserie. Y

SAFRANBOLU – Hotel Hatice Hanım / 50 YTL: Average room with sofa and television (blurry and no English channels), complete authentic in dark wood (it’s an Ottoman house), no air-conditioning, no window just a ventilation shaft, no English is spoken, breakfast just above average, shower (with own bath-heater) that only gets tepid. N

SANLIURFA – Otel Ipek Palas / 50 YTL double room: Clean room and bathroom, horrible mattresses, air-conditioning, television (no English channels), simple breakfast, staff speak limited English. N

SINOP – Hotel Sarı Kadır / 30 YTL: Spacious room with same bathroom, television (no English channels), no air-conditioning (needed!), balcony with sea view, sofa, refrigerator, rooftop terrace, very sober breakfast, credit card not possible, the only hotel without an hair dryer (…), staff speak no English. Y

SIVAS – Otel Çakir / 45 YTL double room: Simple hotel with a dark lobby but clean, breakfast area is two houses aside, not too good breakfast, balcony street side, elevator, staff speak hardly any English. Y

TRABZON – Hotel Nur / 40 YTL: Simple hotel with very good and clean bathroom, simple breakfast, very friendly staff who speak good English, television (no English channels), air-conditioning, minibar, elevator. Y

TRABZON – Hotel Sağıroğlu / 100 YTL: Spacious room with television (English channel), clean bathroom, average breakfast, staff speak limited English, air-conditioning, minibar, elevator. A good hotel but overpriced. N

If you mean only the city/village I stayed in a hotel, it will be Kemaliye because of the gorgeous nature.

If I can name a place also for things to do / see in the area I am in doubt, I can't choose between Afyon and Sinop.

You can check this with an online currency converter, but -

45 euros = 68 US dollars or 75 Canadian dollars (approx)

75 euros = 106 US dollars or 118 Canadian dollars (approx)

....don´t forget that Trudy´s original post is now 2 years´ old so prices will have most likely gone up..
