si++ what kind of questions did they asked you at the US consulate if you don't mind me asking? I want to invite my mother in law to visit us in the US and I know that she has to prove her ties back in Turkey, so she will be just as nervous as you were and I want to help her as much as I can for her to get one, like sending her a letter of invitation for starter.

I applied for a business visa. So they asked business related question mostly. They asked about the details of my previous visits. My financial status in Turkey. Social security questions. They wanted to see how much money I had in the bank. What kind of work I do in Turkey. What kind of visit it was going to be in the US. They were trying understand if I had enough reasons to go back to Turkey, you know.

It mostly depends on the mood of the guys and ladies there.
Of course they follow some procedures, but in the end, if he/she suspects something, you are out 
Last year I invited a very close friend to the States. The aim of this travel was supposed to be seeing me and investigating some business opportunities here.
He is coming from a very wealthy family, He has been to other countries numereous times but not the States yet at that time.
He showed lots of assets in Turkey.
He showed something around $400,000 in his personal account.
He showed his title and occupation.
My invitation letter.
Etc.. etc..
The lady asked 3 questions.
1) Who is HomeSick?
--- Replied: A very close friend of mine.
2) Are you married?
--- Replied: No
3) Do you have any financial ties with the company you are working for?
--- Yes, my family owns the company (family business)
The lady said, we are sorry, we can't grant you a Visa.
I don't understand the reasoning behind it ? The guy has money, work, etc.. even if he puts another $100,000 to his account ( which he can do it easily), and investS it here, which was the thing in his mind, he can even apply for a green card as an investor easilly. Moreover another $500k can automatically make him a citizen here.
It is very interesting, I find the evaluation process very personal, and so full of errors.

She asked me more than 3 questions (I don't remember the number now).
But I remember she said "you seem nervous" 4-5 times in between the questions, and I just said "do I?".
She wanted to see my bank accounts, I said "Oh I forgot to bring such a document with me". At that time I said "That's it. It's over" to myself.
Surprisingly she granted me the visa at the end of the questioning. It's was a Friday. Saturday I had my passport delivered to my door. Much faster then I had expected.
Also I expected a visa for single entry, but no, to my surprise, it was a "multiple entries for 10 years".
