I don't know if anyone out there saw the movie, Blood Diamond but when I did I was left thinking...something needs to be done about the situation. Looks like Turkey is joining many other nations to stop this horrible practice.

This is wonderful news - well done Turkey for taking this stand.

It's amazing that worldwide political change can be brought about by a film.

Leonardo DiCaprio Works with Orphans from SOS Childrens Villages
Children from Maputo, Mozambique act as "extras" on set of his upcoming film, "Blood Diamond"

Leonardo DiCaprio with the children from SOS Children's Villages in Maputo

09/08/06 - WASHINGTON, DC. During filming for his new movie, "Blood Diamond", due out December 2006, Leonardo had the chance to meet and work with 24 orphaned children from the SOS Childrens Village in Maputo, Mozambique. The children were asked to be extras in the film and got to spend part of their summer break traveling to the movie set and working with the actors.

Leonardo was extremely touched by his interactions with the children and was thrilled to be a part of such a memorable experience for them.

SOS Childrens Villages opened its first village in Mozambique in 1986, after 16 years of civil war in the country had left many children orphaned and destitute. There are now 3 SOS Childrens Villages in Mozambique, home to hundreds of children orphaned as a result of war, poverty, and disease; problems that have plagued the country for years.

It is a very good thing for a country to take a stand!!

I just can't help but think how sad it is that it takes a film to move people into action. It becomes "trendy" so some people jump on the bandwagon...until the next trend comes along...then they move on.

I dont think its a case of having a "trendy" cause. Its just a fact that if you present something in black and white text to someone, it does not affect them so emotionally as if you re-create the situation in glorious techicolor complete with sad music in the background!!! Who cares what motives people have for supporting issues highlighted in media, as long as it brings about help/change to that situation.

For example, I am sure that many people are completely unaffected when Femme or Catwoman talk about cultural female circumcision. However, grab Stephen Spielburg, some sad music, a beautiful heroine who dies, the villian.... soon people would be saying "How come I never knew about this vile mutilation before? How come nobody has done anything about it?" lol

There are so many human rights issues throughout the world that its really virtually impossible for EVERYONE to take action about EVERYTHING as an individual. So what if this is only in people's minds for a while....the difference here is that governments took action
