Going to Konya for Mevlana

We will be travelling from Kibris to Konya in December for the mevlana festival. We can book a flight with Turkish airlines but it means a 12 hr stop both ways in Istanbul so we are now thinking of flying to Ankara and getting a bus from there to Konya. Does anyone have experience on the bus route and how frequent the busses run.
Thanks in advance

Metro bus company has at least every hour a bus from Ankara to Konya (plus some ongoing busses from elsewhere). The fare is 21,50 YTL but if you book online (Turkish only) it is 18,00 YTL.

http://online.metroturizm.com.tr/metro/buy/

At this page you have to fill in: Biniş (means departure), Iniş (means arrival) and yolculuk tarihi (means departure date). After that you'll see the timetable.

Besides Metro there are many other busses but I don't know if they have an online schedule.

I see now I was too quick, sorry! In December there are less busses a day! Only 6! At 03.15, 07.00, 14.00, 16.00, 17.00 and 20.00 hours. Maybe that is wintertime schedule or maybe it is not updated yet, I don't know. Prices are the same.

Trudy thanks i noticed that, i think it might be best to call them first before booking or failing that then we will have to get a taxi which i am sure will be a lot more expensive but will get us there just the same.

Hi

Metro is good, and can be well recommended. Bit more expensive, but the best two companies as far as saftey and service are:

Varan (www.varan.com.tr)
and Ulusoy (www. ulusoy.com.tr)

Two points:

The bus station is NOT next to the airport. It is in town, about 30 mins to 60 mins (depending on rush hour traffic) away from the airport. You have to get airport shuttle bus (havaş servis) into town, and then go to servis office of your bus company, or get short taxi ride to bus station. Or get taxi all the way from airport, but they charge the night rate at all times of day as it is out of town.

If your plane is let, or it takes you longer to get to the bus station, then you may miss your bus. You may be better not to reserve on line, but just turn up at bus station and get the next bus out with whichever company you like the look of...dependson how adventurous a traveler you are!
