Hi. One of the aims of this class is to help us all LEARN Turkish. I enjopy helping people by translating their texts for them, but I feel I would help them more if I could help them understand it more for themselves ... so they could write their own note next time. After all, when they meet face to face with their friend they won't have time to mail off a translation request in the middle of a conversation!

For example: I often find I translate "I love your eyes", then in the evening the same person asks for "I love your scent" to be translated. Then the next day they write "I love your personality" in a note to be translated.

I am sure you all know the story about instead of giving someone a fish to eat, you help them more by teaching them how to fish.

So .. I am starting a substitution drill thread. If it catches on, I will start a lot more with other substitutions.

THE IDEA IS SIMPLE. "I LOVE...."
JUST FILL IN THE "....." WITH ANYTHING YOU LIKE (preferably within the TC Rules or a moderator may censor it!!)

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, JUST HAVE A GO, AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL CORRECT IT IF IT IS WRONG.

Remember to put the English, too, so that this thread can help people who want to write their own note in Turkish, or try to decode a note written in Turkish.

Here are three from me to get it started:

I love you: SENİ SEVİYORUM

I love your eyes: GÖZLERİNİ SEVİYORUM

I love Turkey's historical sites: TÃœRKİYE'NİN TARİHİ YERLERİNİ SEVİYORUM

Over to you...

A question: can you also give (small) explanation at each new sentence/ correction, Marion? Or would that spoil the drill? Cause I'm instantly trying to understand the suffixes, which I don't...

And my apologies if this post is too much off topic.

Hey Trudy. THANKS for being interested! Really the idea is to learn to use a simple sentence structure by either changing the noun / object (as in this case) or the verb (we can do other substitution drills for examples like this). So I will start another 2 simple threads off now. If you have a suffix you want to practice, then start a new drill with that suffix and we can all practice examples of sentences where we just change one or two words using that suffix.

If you like, let's stick to "I Love ... " on this thread

I love learning Turkish: Türkçe öğrenmeyi seviyorum
