Noah's Pudding (Asure)

1 cup of Barley
1 cup of white kidney beans (canned), washed and drained
1 cups of chickpeas (canned), washed and drained
1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 cups of water
10 dried apricots, soaked in water overnight
10 dried figs, cut into pieces
1/2 cup of raisin or dried berries
Put 4 cups of water in a large pot with the barley. Bring it to a boil, turn down to a medium heat and let it cook for about 30 minutes. Add the beans, chickpeas, vanilla, apricots, raisins or berries, sugar, and 6 cups of hot water. Cook for about one hour on medium heat, stirring occasionally. Pour into large serving dish and refrigerate.
For garnish add crushed walnuts or almonds and a dash of cinnamon.
