current data about the bird flu:

being sick when the virus is positive: 100%
Mortality rate despite the antiviral treatment: 58%

despite these findings from the experiences in asia, in Turkey the picture is completely different.

there has been several cases where the patient had the virus but showed no or very mild symptoms. this is the first time that we see a serious resistance to the virus. The mortality rate up to now is quite ok. as far as i know there has been 14 cases that were officially declared as bird flu up to now. 4 of them lost their lifes making the mortality rate less than %30 (and unfortunately one family who lost their 3 children was quite late for the treatment). because of the resistance that i explained above I would assume that there may be dosens of people in villages who have mild symptoms. they are probably living their lifes as usual.

after all "bize bir sey olmaz".

So this actually means it's not sooooooo dangerous as told?

I also read that the US have found a goodworkign vaccin to make the spreading stop.. do they just want to become 'friends' with Turkish government?

I haven't read about birdflu in the papers for quite some time. I assume it's fading or not so out of control anymore?

Enlighten me because only 3 weeks left to convince my parents i have to go to turkey

I will travel to Turkey still. The whole bird flu thing is being hyped out of all proportion just as Sars was-to create a lot of fear in people.

I dont think they are 'hyping it up' to create fear in people. In Turkey there are alot of rural areas which are at risk to catching bird flu, unfortunately in such rural areas, its very hard to get through to the people, alot of villagers in Eastern Turkey are still sharing their living space with poultery, despite all the 'hyping up' - The more they 'hype it up' the better, that way they might actually get through to the people who think bird flu can be cured by giving the birds 'ıhlamur' to drink. Despite bird flu being in the media for the past few weeks, iam sure theres still thousands of people in Turkey who have no idea what bird flu is or how harmful it can be. By creating so much attention regarding bird flu, they are educating the Turkish people, and protecting them against a virus which has killed 4 in the past month.
Can you imagine if these events had happened in the UK? and what would the media be like if 4 children had died, and hundreds of people had been diagnosed or suspected to have the virus?
