Merhaba!

My name is Antonio and I live in Portugal.I am learning to play the ney.
Since there are no teachers here, I want to learn Turkish in order to be able to read books about the ney and classical Turkish music.
So far I have found the books (i have not bought yet)" ney method" by Mr.Süleyman Ergüner and for the Turkish makam system the book
"Türk Musikisi Dersleri" by Mr. Zeki Yilmaz.I am also following the instructions on www.neyzen.com
Can you please advise other good books and perhaps some other website with video lessons?

Thank you in advance
Antonio

I've found this site: http://www.neyci.com. They promise they will add video lessons soon. Unfortunately, the site is in Turkish but if you click on the ILETISIM tab and send an e-mail to the site admin he would probably help you in some way.

If you are going to play Turkish music, you will have to learn the Turkish music notation system as well as unique rhythm patterns which are very different from the Western ones. Additionally, you will have to master Turkish makams.

I wish I could help you more. I tried that ney thing once or twice and on failing to make it sound, I decided to put an end to my career as a ney player.

Vineyards,

Thank you for your reply.
I will contact them. Can you please tell the location on the website where they announce the lessons?
It took me 4 days with much dyzziness, headache and out of breath to be able to produce some sound.Don't give up!it will be rewarding in the end

I think I gave you an incomplete link. Try that one above.
