As the title says i'm flying into ataturk then out to Ankara...does anyone know about how the connecting flight will probably work? will I have to get my luggage back then check into the next flight? i've never done this connecting business before!

thanks, bjk

I dont think you will see your luggage in Istanbul...they will find their way to your connection themselves.

Just to make sure, consult with one of the flight attendants, before you land in Istanbul.

Changing planes is no big deal...Dont worry about it..

It depends bjk, if you don't change airlines during the flight your luggage will probably be sent automatcally from Atatürk to Esenboğa Airport, at least it worked like that for me when I took KLM to go from Madrid to Istanbul ,connecting in Amsterdam.

You should just ask the airline staff at the airport, but I bet you won't have to think about your luggage until you arrive at Ankara.

İyi yolculuklar!

When i fly from manchester to Ankara via istanbul Ataturk frequently and it is all with Turkish Airlines.I asked at the desk on my first trip as other people have suggested and they told me that i wouldnt see my bag at istanbul all i had to do was check it in manchester and then pick it up in Ankara. However if the connecting flight is with a different airline than the initial flight you should ask at information.Hope this helps, have a great flight(s)!

Like SERA, on several occasions I have passed through Atatürk while making a connection to Ankara. When both the flight into and out of Atatürk were on Turkish Air, I checked my luggage through to Ankara and didn't have to deal with it in Istanbul; it was transferred for me.

When I flew into Atatürk on Air France and then to Ankara on Turkish Air, I had to check my luggage to Istanbul, pick it up there, then check it in again on Turkish Air.

cool thanks everyone I'm flying with the same airline all the way through so thats a relief

will i have to go through passport control in istanbul, get my visa and then find my way from there? Or will I get off the plane and bypass passport control until I get to Ankara? :-S I half know Ataturk because I've been there before, but never for this connecting malarkey

I assume you're arriving with an international flight, in which case you go through the passport control at Atatürk because you have to go to the domestic terminal for your flight to Esenboğa - don't worry it's only a short walk
