You have to quickly investigate where you can prepare for the YÖS exam, as only passing this 'Foreign Student Exam' is a ticket into turkish university as a foreigner. Even for private univrsities you need this exam. The exam is in spring (when I took it it was in April) and the closure for university is just before summer, after the results of your exam are published.

Are you sure you need YOS? I would like to go to Hacettepe Universitesi in Ankara and on their website it says that other exams are accepted in leiu of YOS. Perhaps the translation from turkish to english was bad. What do you think?

Yes. Some other exams are accepted. It depends on which country you are from and which (highschool) exam you took. On the YOS website (you can find from google), you can download a YOS Guide. On one of the first pages it gives a list of exams that are accepted.

But Ive been told that universities prefer YOS, they seem to trust it more. And you have to take a Turkish exam anyway.
