You may want to check out if it is possible to get cataract surgery done after laser work. I've heard it can not be done. Cartaracts grow slowly and are just about undetectable in early stages.

Quoting AEnigma III: Ouh thanks for this topic LL I am interested to know how soon you see the effects. I have not had to wear glasses (yet ) but notice I am becoming a bit long sighted - does it work for that? Does it hurt? Keep us posted!! |
Everyone gets more long-sighted as they get older and I think with the early laser surgery they weren't able to help people with this type of longsightedness (presbyopia as opposed to hypermetropia) but I think advances have been made that might make it possible now. And, no it doesn't hurt except for a day or so after and - again - mine was done 13 years ago so there is probably only minimal/no after pain these days.

Speaking from experience...speaking from experience! And apparently spots appear before your eyes as well!

Effects are noticed more or less straigh away, all baring the blurring from drops etc and eye not liking bing poked about with.
Did not hurt, just a sensation of pressure and temporary blindness (the worst bit, when it all goes black:-S )whilst the treatment was taking place.
And I was under the impression that it was short sightedness that is age related, as I was always longsighted with an astimatism.
Just a bit awkward that I have one good eye and one not so good eye at the moment, which is making reading and using the PC a bit awkward.
Just one word of warning, take no notice of these adverts, From £395........... then there is the surgeon, the theatre fee, etc etc
I went to the dogs bollocks of eyes hospitals, Moorfields! I did not want to take risks! If I had gone to a advertised clinic then I might be in a different position as I am sure they would have carried on with my second eye, when this surgeon stopped.

Different type of longsightedness - presbyopia is related to getting older - and apparently they can even treat that now - lead me to that eye clinic while I can still see

I had my first eye done at a BUPA hospital and it cost £1000. A year later the second operation cost me £495 at theh Optimax Eye Clinic in London - no problems at all with either - although I clearly have a problem with the multiple quotes thing !

Update on my procedure!
This morning I went to the clinic to have my other eye lasered and low and behold, once again the procedure did not or would not work. I have come away from there feeling very fed up and a little sad.
Although I am very happy with the results of the eye that has been successful, I wish I had not had it done, because of all the messing about.
I now have to go back again, and have a different treatment, which means I will need time off work while the sight restores as the eye heals.
They have never known this to happen before and they said I am unique (well I could have told them that! )
