Todays Zaman has a fascinating survey of foreigners who live in Fethiye.

The research, conducted with the participation of 311 foreign families living in Fethiye, which hosts about 5,000 expatriates, reveals interesting findings.
* British are the most eager to buy houses in Fethiye, followed by the Germans.
* While the Germans tend to live in the city center, the British prefer the countryside.
* More than 90 percent of foreign homeowners here had been to the city prior to purchasing, with many of them having spent extended vacations in the area.
* 59 percent have college degrees.
*Almost half of the expats in the city buy a car after completing their home purchase.
*16 percent own a boat.

By definition of a ghost town, I guess no one, not even Turks, lives there!

i love it in fethiye. these numbers dont really surprise me though haha. when walking through fethiye itself though it is mainly turks which walk the streets (winter seasons anyway) in the summer season however it is crowded with tourists espesially the market area.
i would say that if you go to olu deniz or hisaronu or ovacik then these places have a VERY high number of english home owners.
if i was to take the poll then i suppose i would fit under home owner.....atleast my parents would. i've also been there quite a lot staying there for long periods and no matter what time of year its always a great place. i would say though, if i personally was to choose a location to buy a property i would be quite hesitant on fethiye nowadays as it is becoming extremely tourist ridden which i try to avoid as i enjoy turkiye for what it is than what we bring to it. (if you know what i mean?)

I lived in Marmaris for 3 years and Istanbul for a short period of. time. I have visited Fethiye and oludeniz and really loved it. Its so beautiful and I always said that I would buy there when I was older. Now though, with the statistics of tourists and ex-pats I dont think I will! Koyceigz is now top of my list.

Merhaba Oreniyorum:

I just happened to be at this beautiful lake area in May.

The whole Koycegiz area is famous for its dwellinjgs of woven wood. The best surviving ones are in Hamitkoy, on the lake's eastern shore. These unique primitive habitations, now abandoned for concrete dwellings probably date back to antiquity.
